Thomas Ervin Wheatley was born 16 January 1868 in Maury County, Tennessee. He was the 2nd son born to Pierce Henry Wheatley and Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" Wright Wheatley. Thomas and his family lived in the portion of Henderson County, Tennessee that was to become Chester County, Tennessee in 1879. His infant years were spent in the Henderson / Jacks Creek area where his Wheatley grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins lived. Thomas was about ten years old when his immediate family members moved to Ellis County, Texas. His teen years were spent in that county.

Thomas Ervin married 1) Lou V. Flemming 06 September 1891 in Ellis County, Texas (Vol: G, p: 131). She was born 10 September 1874 in Mississippi.

Children of THOMAS ERVIN WHEATLEY and LOU FLEMMING are:

  1.   Oscar Ervin Wheatley was born 05 June 1892 in Howard, Ellis County, Texas (obit). He married Nancy Elizabeth "Nannie" Moses 03 October 1915 in Ellis County, Texas (Vol: 5, p: 83),. She was the daughter of Samuel Houston Moses and Addie Hannah. Nannie was born 05 August 1891 in Texas.

Oscar Ervin Wheatley died 16 July 1980 in Ellis County, Texas.
Nannie Moses Wheatley died 26 July 1977 in Ellis County, Texas.
They are buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ellis County, Texas.

 

 

  2.    Clarence Webb "Buddy" Wheatley was born 18 October 1893 in Ellis County, Texas, He married Lota Pearl Webb 15 January 1919 in Ellis County, Texas (Vol: 2T, p: 468). She was born 31 July 1898 in Texas,

Lota Pearl Webb Wheatley died 05 February 1982 in Ellis County, Texas.

Lou Flemming Wheatley became ill with tuberculosis and died 02 July 1899 in Ellis County, Texas. She is buried in the Boren Cemetery in Reagor Springs, Ellis County, Texas

Widower Tom Wheatley was boarding in Ellis County, Texas with Pierce Hudnall when the 1900 census was taken. His parents, Pierce H. and Mary E. Wheatley, were caring for his young sons. Tom's brother, Arthur, lived in Wood County, Texas in that census year. It is possible he influenced Pierce Henry's decision to move his family to that area. Pierce and Bette moved to Wood County after June 1900 and it's possible they had Tom's sons, Oscar and Clarence, with them. Thomas Ervin joined his family in Wood County.

Thomas Ervin Wheatley married 2) Annie E. Rawlings / Rollins 03 August 1902 in Wood County, Texas (Vol: D, page: 446 - certificate # 20122). She was born 01 April 1878.

 

Children of THOMAS ERVIN WHEATLEY and ANNIE E. RAWLINGS/ ROLLINS are:

  3.   Emma Lue Wheatley was born 06 December 1903 in Wood County, Texas (Book: 1, p:17). She married Clarence Robert Dawson 27 July 1919 in Italy, Ellis County, Texas (Vol: T, p: 638). He was the son of Frank Dawson and Mary Helms Clarence Robert was born 22 November 1878 in Texas.

Clarence Robert Dawson died 24 November 1942 in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. Emma Lue Wheatley Dawson died 15 March 1939 in Milford, Ellis County, Texas. They are buried in Milford Cemetery in Milford, Ellis County, Texas.

 

 

  4.    Pierce Milton Wheatley was born 31 July 1905 in Quitman, Wood County, Texas. He married (1) Nannie Lou Woosley 26 November 1923 in Ellis County, Texas (Vol: A, p: 272). She was born 24 October 1907. Pierce worked for the railroad. He and Nannie had moved to Slaton by 1930. They divorced before 1947 and Nannie married Arno W Albrecht.
Pierce Milton Wheatley married (2) Ida Lavada Moses 07 November 1971 in Ellis County, Texas. She was a widow, the daughter of Samuel Houston Moses and Addie Hannah. Ida Lavada was born 14 July 1908 in Ellis County, Texas.

Pierce Milton Wheatley died 09 October 1993 in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas (obit). He is buried in the Ham plot in Waxahachie City Cemetery in Ellis County, Texas.
Nannie Lou Woosley Wheatley Albrecht died 16 September 2000 in Lubbock County, Texas. She is buried in Sons of Hermann Cemetery in Orange Grove, Jim Wells County, Texas.
Ida Lavada Moses Ham Wheatley died 11 December 2005 in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. She is buried beside her first husband in Waxahachie City Cemetery in Ellis County, Texas

Thomas Ervin Wheatley married (3) Cenia "Cenie" Reynolds 05 August 1906 in Wood County, Texas (Vol: E, page: 325 - certificate# 18376) She was the daughter of Rhode Reynolds. Cenie was born 08 November 1874 in Alabama. Cenie was a young widow. According to the 1910 Ellis County census, she had been married 3 times. We know of two because she had 3 children from that marriage.

Cenia "Cenie" Reynolds married Joseph Oliver Minshew 22 January 1896 in Wood County, Texas (Vol: C, p: 332)
Their children were:

  1. Sallie Minshew Farquhar Strength. She was born 04 January 1897 in Wood County, Texas and died 19 June 1992 in Burleson, Johnson County, Texas. Sallie is buried in Milford Cemetery in Ellis County, Texas.
     
  2. Jarvis Destal Minshew born 23 December 1898 in Wood County, Texas and died 28 February 1985 in Ellis County, Texas. He is buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ellis County, Texas.
     
  3. Jessie May Minshew Baucom. She was born 31 August 1902 in Quitman, Wood County, Texas and died 21 April 1996 in Renfro Nursing Home in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. She is buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in Tarrant County, Texas.

Tom moved Cenie and their combined family back to Ellis County and lived close to his brother, Kent.

Ida Meets Tom

Around 1915 or 1916, Thomas Ervin visited his older brother, Clark Kent Wheatley. Kent's son, Henry Frank "Boe", had a young bride named Ida Lavelle Boren Wheatley.

It was raining. Kent and Boe took Tom's horses to the barn. Tom went to the house. A large wet stranger, with a beard to his waist, stepped through the door. In a loud and rough voice said "Are you Boe's wife?". Helen Meeks quotes her mother as saying "He scared the heck out of me". Later Thomas explained to Ida that the long hair and beard kept him warm in winter. Ida told Helen that he kissed all the kinfolks.

 

Children of THOMAS ERVIN WHEATLEY and CENIA REYNOLDS are:

  5.    Elizabeth May "Potsy" Wheatley was born 24 May 1907 in South Prong, Ellis County, Texas and died 30 July 2004 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. She was married to H. E. Gaither.
 

 

  6.    Ada Bunch Wheatley was born 23 September 1909 in Texas and died 28 November 1991 in Dyersburg, Dyer County, Tennessee. She married William David Frizzell. He was born 25 February 1910 and died 08 November 1980. They are buried in Eastview Cemetery in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee.
 

 

  7.     Thomas Ervin Wheatley, Jr. was born 15 December 1911 in Texas. He married Ruth Milner. She was born 06 November 1916. Ruth Milner Wheatley retired from Texgas Inc. She was a Pink Lady for Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City, a member of First United Methodist Church and Business and Professional Women's Club.

Thomas Ervin Wheatley died 28 August 1985 in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee.
Ruth Milner Wheatley died 19 December 2003 in Union City Manor in Obion County, Tennessee.
They are buried in Eastview Cemetery in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee.

 

 

  8.   Raymond Charles Wheatley was born 19 March 1914 in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas and died 31 January 2006 in Red Oak, Ellis County, Texas. Raymond is buried in Italy Cemetery, Ellis County, Texas.
 

 

  9.    Juanita Wheatley was born 15 October 1916 in Ellis County, Texas. She married Joseph Leonard Bailey. He was the son of James Talbert Bailey and Annie Allen. Joseph was born 01 January 1910 in Milford, Ellis County, Texas.

Joseph Leonard Bailey died 07 December 1972 in Kingsville, Kleberg County, Texas.
Joseph and Juanita lived in Brownsville, Texas at the time. (Death Certificate)
Juanita Wheatley Bailey died 29 September 2000 in Bexar County, Texas.
They are buried in Buena Vista Burial Park in Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas

 

 

  10.     Mattie Fern Wheatley was born 22 April 1921 in Texas. She married (1) Elgin Armond Lloyd, Jr. before 1951. She married (2) Tobie Combs 18 July 1970 in Dallas County, Texas. He was born 05 April 1927 and died 07 February 1999. Mattie worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She retired in 1986 after 35 years service.

She is buried in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.

 

Oscar and Pierce Milton took their father, Thomas Ervin Wheatley, to Tennessee in the late 1930s. During this trip Thomas met Hayes D. Wheatley and they established the fact that they were sons of brothers; Thomas, the son of Pierce Henry Wheatley and Hayes D., the son of George W. Wheatley.
