a little about vicky (February 2001)
I have a smile on my face when you mentioned "this geneology stuff"... I started out in 1986 working on dad's side of the family... I've always been interested in it...
Dad is especially proud of that because I'm adopted.. however.. they took me home at 3 hours old.. so i've always been a Brower.. *S*... Mom and dad went on to adopt another girl and a boy too... coincidentally my sister's name is Catherine Ruth and my brother's name is Charles Andrew... *S*
Anyway.... coming from a loving home.. i've always had these questions... and always wanted to look like somebody.. hahahah so I started my search for my birthfamily.... Oct 1987.... at the same time I was working on the family geneology... they kind of worked together... You use a lot of the same techniques...
I like to tell people if I hadn't been as loved and supported in this endeavor I never would have been able to complete my search... which ended last Aug 4th, 2000.... so my family branches have increased immensely...
I am currently living in Hatfield, Mo with my younger (new) brother Curt... with blessings from my family...
A Brower cousin asks me frequently... how are the new and old families.... and i think it is quite appropriate...
I can now tell you... I know where this smile comes from.... and all of the little things most people don't think about because they see they're grandparents and sisters and brothers....
In living here, at the age of 46.. with my sons grown now... I am learning about these people, as their sister and daughter, on a day to day basis... with all of my questions being answered...
We've had a few articles done... the local newspaper in Bethany, Mo... when I came to visit the first time... and through one of the adoption registries a New York based internet mag inter@ctive week.. just did an article in January on us... they even hired a photographer out of Kansas City to come and take our pics... so we all have "big heads" right now.. hahahha and I've kept journals all of these years so I'm compiling them.. maybe a book someday...
When I first found them... to show you how my dad thinks.. one of his first questions (because he was the first person I called).. was how many more kids and grandkids did he have... and in the last six months he has turned into a surrogate father for them. Their father passed away in 1983 and Mary sure has missed having a father around, so it's been nice....
Dad is planning on coming out from Texas "when we thaw out"... and that will be the first time he meets all of them...
One of the things I couldn't figure out for so long was.. why was no one looking for me.... no sisters.. brothers... etc....... the doctor and midwife had told "Mom" that i had died.. and since she didn't hear a baby crying after 3 hours.. she assumed they were right....
when i read your piece on where you've been and all... i was thinking if i put mine down.... it would be soooo long..... i have three grown sons... 26, 24, 22 and the middle boy just got married last october and he just informed me two weeks ago.. that i'm going to be a grandma....
i've even lived in australia.. thanks to the internet... on a fish farm..... hahaha yeah a fish farm.... normally a rainbow trout takes a year to grow from fingerling to frying pan size over there.... i designed a spreadsheet telling them how much to feed and when to feed... and it worked.... we grew 750 rainbow trout in 65 days
Sorry, I get going on and on about this... i just think it's a great story... vicky
