	Rufus L Bishop, born Callaway County, Missouri, Oct 20, 1857, son of
Wesley and Mary Ann (Bibie) Bishop both natives of Kentucky, who came to Callaway
county about 1853.  Wesley Bishop bought two hundred acres of land near Fulton
and farmed and operated coal mines there, later returning to Fulton, where he
died.  Rufus Bishop attended schools of the county, began to assist at farming 
at an early age, and at fifteen went into the mine, and ever since has followed
mining.  At twentyfour he began to operate the mine for himself.
	On Oct 15, 1881, Mr Bishop was married to Mary Lehman, children:
Myrtle; Charles Wesley died at 18 months; Jennie, who married George James;
Elmer L., deceased; Bertha, Verna, Beulah and Cecil, at home.  Myrtle married
James Handley, a construction contractor of Salt Lake City.
	Mr Bishop came to Lafayette county about 1895 and has been farming and
mining since.  In 1908 he and his son-in-law, Mr James, organized the Corder
Coal Company as pardners, and in April they began to sink the shaft one-half 
mile south of Corder, which they have operated since June, 1908.
	Mr Bishop is a Democrat and a member of the Methodist Church.
