	Mr. Shelton A. Oliver was born in Clark county, Kentucky, June 1st, 
1822, emigrated with his parents to Montgomery county, Mo., in the Autumn of 
1826, was married to Miss Virginia Bishop, Nov. 6, 1850.  He joined the M.E. 
church, south, in August, 1870, and was baptized by Rev. Henry H. Craig.  
Nine children blessed the happy union of their marriage.  Two died in 
infancy, and a son, Jefferson Davis, at the age of nine, two have married 
and gone from the old homestead.  Four of them with their widowed mother 
survive and deeply mourn their loss.  Upright, manly and just in all his 
dealings, he maintained an unblemished character, commanded the respect and 
carried the confidence and esteem of his community.  He was a good provider 
for his family in all his married life,  thirty-two years his pantry shelves 
were filled with the substantials for their table.  "Death, who cannot be 
bribed by the gold of an empire," challenged his victum, and on the morning 
of October 3d, 1882, our brother fell asleep after an illness of 12 days.  
Funeral services by Rev. Henry Kay, after which he was laid to rest in the 
church yard of Bethel.  Thus he lived a useful life and died a peaceful 
death.

	Mrs. Virginia Oliver.  A hushed and tender solemnity fell upon this 
community when it was announced by the sons of Mrs. Virginia Oliver, "Mother 
is dead!".  Oh, so sudden!  The shock seemed too severe to the bereaved ones 
and to the whole community.
	Administering ...  presence.
	Like ...  old age.
	Mrs. Virginia Oliver (nee Bishop) was born in Albemarle county, 
Virginia, April 25, 1827;  came with her parents to Missouri when she was 
eight years old;  was married to Shelton Oliver Nov. 6, 1850;  united with 
the Methodist Episcopal Church, south, August, 1870;  died June 17, 1904.  
Her funeral was preached by her pastor, Rev. Middleton, on Sunday, June 19,

	Thus has a beautiful life passed from our midst.  The sobs of grief 
from her children, grandchildren, and other relatives told of their 
deep-felt loss.
	The sons of the deceased are Judge W.S., Lee and Edwin Oliver;  the 
daughters, Mrs. Emmett Walker and Mrs. Charles Dillard, several 
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive.

	Death of Mrs Virginia Oliver. Mrs Virginia Oliver (nee Bishop) was 
born in Albemarle County, Virginia, April 25, 1827, came with her parents to 
Missouri when she was eight years old;  was married to Shelton Oliver 
November 6, 1850, united with the Methodist Episcopal Church south, August 
1870, died June 17, 1904.
	She leaves one brother, T.D. Bishop, and five children, the sons of 
the deceased are Judge W.S., Lee and Edwin Oliver, the daughters, Mrs. Emmet 
Walker and Mrs. Charles Dillard, several grandchildren, and five 
great-grandchildren survive.
