S-Sgt. M. R. Bishop -- Services for S.Sgt. (Ret.) Melvin Roy Bishop, 40, of 415 N.W. 53rd, are pending at Greenlawn Funeral home. He died about 9:40 a.m. today in the U.S. Army hospital, Fort Sill, from an apparent heart condition, after a brief illness. Sgt. Bishop was born July 27, 1923, in Mexico, Mo. He entered the national Guard in 1940, and was activated into the Regular Army following Pearl Harbor. He served with the 6th Armored Division in the European Theater during World War II, and overseas tours since that time have included Korea and Okinawa. He held the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart. He married Ruby Ann Sims in Kansas City, Mo., March 28, 1943. He retired from the Army in 1962, at Fort Sill, and had been an agent for Security Union Life Insurance Co. since. He was also a licensed real estate broker. He had lived in Lawton about four years. Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, John, stationed with the Air Force in France; Melvin R. Bishop Jr., stationed at Forbes Air Force Base, Kans.; James, 16, and Kenneth, 14, both of the home; two daughters, Linda, 9, and Deborah, 6, both of the home; four sisters, Mrs. William Bales and Mrs. Robert Edler, both of St. Charles, Mo; Mrs James Vorhees, Gardena, Calif., and Mrs. Al Peters, Manson, Iowa; two brothers, William, of Centralia, Mo., and Robert, address unknown.
