OBITUARY OF PAUL BISHOP, Missouri, Friday, February 1958

PAUL BISHOP FUNERAL TO BE AT WELLS FUNERAL HOME
  Funeral services for Paul Bishop, 75, lifelong resident of the Wellsville 
area, will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Wells Funeral Home 
in Wellsville.  Rev. Howard Hardeman, pastor of the Wellsville Methodist 
Church, of which Mr. Bishop was a member, will be in charge.  Burial will be 
in the Wellsville Cemetery.
  Mr. Bishop's death occurred at the family home on Tuesday afternoon at 
2:30 following an extended illness.  He had been bedfast for five weeks.  He 
suffered a stroke first in 1946 and had been in impaired health since that 
time.  His condition became critical about a week before his death.
  Paul Waldo Bishop was born in Montgomery County on March 9, 1882, a son of 
the late John Andrew Bishop and his wife, Lovie McCormack Bishop.  He was 
married to Miss Velma Holcomb on March 9, 1921.  They became the parents of 
two children, both of whom survive, as does their mother.  They are: Mrs. 
John (Effie Irene) Hutchison of Bossier City, La.; and Alva Dean Bishop of 
Pensacola, Fla.  There are four grandchildren: Starla and John Hutchison, 
Jr.; and Edwin Dean and Linda Lee Bishop.
  Other survivors include the following sisters and brothers:  Mrs. Isaac 
(Bessie) Best, Mrs. Dave (Arah) Burgess, Mrs. Grover (Ruth) Arnall and 
Glenwood Bishop all of Wellsville; Mrs. O. K. (Vera) Walker of Montgomery 
City; Ross Bishop of Dallas, Tex.; Mrs. Harold (Anna Mae) Jetty of Dallas, 
Tex.; and Mrs. James (Frances) Carrigan of San Antonio, Tex.
  An uncle, Charles Clement of Wellsville, and two aunts, Mrs. Amelia Brower 
of near Wellsville and Mrs. Ellen Schambach of Clarksville also survive, as 
do a number of nieces and nephews.
  One brother, Calvin Bishop of Vernon, Tex., preceded him in death, as did 
an infant brother.
  Alva Dean Bishop was in Maine at the time of his father's death delivering 
a trailer from Michigan.  Word of his father's death did not reach him until 
on Wednesday morning.  he was expected to arrive in Wellsville on Saturday 
morning.  Mrs. Dean Bishop drove her car as far as Bossier City, La., and 
accompanied the John Hutchison family to Wellsville, arriving on Thursday.  
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bishop arrived from Dallas on Thursday.
  Mr. Bishop was a retired carpenter.  He lived practically his entire life 
in the neighborhood where he was born, in the Shamrock community near the 
Montgomery and Callaway County line.  In 1944 he sold his farm and he and 
his family moved to Wellsville where he erected a new home on Clay Street 
where he lived since.  He was a member of a well-known Montgomery County 
family and has many friends in the county as well as in the Wellsville community.
