Precious memories of my parents this Bicentennial year, the Centennial Anniversary of their birth, one hundred years 1876-1976. Wilford Granville Bishop, son of Samuel Calvin and Alice (Hayden) Bishop was born May 10, 1876 in San Jose, Ca. He died September 12, 1957 in St Louis, Mo. at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 2 days. Mary Virginia (Oliver) Bishop, daughter of James Henry and Camilla Virginia (Maupin) Oliver was born July 15, 1876 in Montgomery County, Mo. She died June 4, 1939 in Montgomery City, Mo. at the age of 62 years, 10 months and 19 days. The Montgomery City Cemetery is their final resting place. They were married September 15, 1897. The Holy bands were broken by death of mother after 41 years, 8 months, and 18 days of marriage. Eleven children blessed this union, ranging in age from 56 years to 78. There are five daughters and four sons living, two daughters passed away in infancy. They are Leola of Florida, Alma of Kentucky, Alice of Arkansas, Mary of Virginia, Floy and Floyd (twins), Wilford, Harry and Wendell of Missouri. The heritage dates back to old Virginia and Pennsylvania and spread across the United States to Bishop, Ca. The Oliver, Bishop, Clements, Maupin, Hayden, Powers and Harris families settled west of Montgomery City in the Bethel vicinity. Richer fuller deeper, sweeter as the years go by; When I wake up to sleep no more we shall meet some day, with a million years in glory and a million more to go. Sadly missed by daughter --- Alma Bishop Garrett, R. 8 Box 323, Liberty, Ky. 42539.
