Subject: Bishops of MO Date: 24 Jan 1998
From: Ron Stutsman RNSTUTSMAN@aol.com

Thank you for your response to my note about the MO BISHOP listings. I looked
at your bishop site and the MO census index page. One thing that came to my
attention was that a number of you are working on Audrain Co., MO.

While I have no relatives in the area, my wife was born in Mexico, Audrain
Co., MO in Jan 1949. I found her grandfather's brother Lawrence PRECHT listed
in your surname index for James BISHOP and allied families. It appears that
she may be related to someone working on your site. Her maternal grandparents
were Earl PRECHT and Fern KETTERY, they owned and operated the Precht funeral
home in Mexico until they retired around the early 1970's. Her paternal
grandparents were Ralph HUESTON and Anna ESTES, Ralph retired from A. P. Green
as a foreman in the late 1960's.

I have just started working on her lineage, if you happen to trip over any of
these surnames in the course of your research I would appreciate any
information you share with us.

In my BISHOP line, Elias BISHOP was born in VA (probably Washington Co.) 1799.
The next positive sighting I have is in Boone Co., IN about 1821-2. He lived
there until about 1853 when he moved his family to Polk Co., IA. I am still
sorting some of this out, if you are interested I can attach a GED or FTW file
to an EMAIL.

As to the resources in Springfield, the Ozarks Genealogical Society has placed
a number of their holdings in the Shepard Room of the main library for the use
of the public. We have the census index for many states through 1850, some
through 1870. Also, we have the Missouri census (or soundex) itself from a
print reconstruction of the 1820 through 1920, and hundreds of MO genealogy
related books.

Are you only interested in the census index 1840 - 1870 at this time? If you
feel it would be helpful to your project, I can begin transcribing the actual
filmed census records for MO since they are available here at no cost. I
should be able to start sending something the first part of next week. Is
there a certain way you prefer it (EMAIL, TXT, DOC, ect)?

Thanks for your patience, Ron

Yes Audrain County, Missouri, as well as Montgomery County and Callaway
County, Missouri... but I decided to try to gather info about early Bishops
in other Missouri counties since there was some moving around then... and
thought it would help to figure out who some of them were and possible track
a few better...

Looks like your wife and I are both direct descendants of Richard and
Katheryn (Waller) Lyle of Macon, Monroe County, Missouri... the following is
what I work out to be our two branches... what is your wife's parents names
and what is your wife's maiden name?...
                     Richard & Katheryn (Waller) Lyle
Sinclair J & Emma C (Lyle) Bishop Martin J & Flora M (Balfour) Lyle
Frank L & Clara O (Anderson) Lawrence and Edna (Lyle) Precht
William F & Marjorie F (Baker) Bishop Earl & Fern (Kettery) Precht
William Frank Jr Bishop [me] [your wife's parents ?]
                                        [your wife: ? (?) Stutsman]
James W Bradley is also a direct descendant of Richard & Katheryn
Lyle... as is Mary F Bales and her daughter Christine Noyer... I have
some info about the Lyles and Wallers but not too much... I hope that
you and/or your wife might have more... at least together we might be
able to gather a good bit of data of those various folks... hope you
don't mind sharing the more common data on our website... I happen to
know of a Lyle family living now but have not contacted in a long while...
if you are interested we could get in touch with them to see what we
might gather thru their knowledge... just let me know... the reason I
haven't contacted them lately is that I have been busy with other
areas...

Will be happy to work and share info with you... would like to
place the more common info on the website if ok with you...

Can you attach an FTW file to an email message to me?... I'll take a
look at it...

Seems you have good resources... :-)... I live in Columbia, Missouri,
and can easily go to the Missouri State Historical Society building here in
town... which I plan to do in a little while... :-)...

If you could get the actual census Bishop data in the 1830-1870 timeframe
but also the index info to check against what I have.... that would be very
useful I think... take a look at what resources you have available at the
Springfield library and work on what is best for you... I would rather work
on gathering obituaries from the MSHS Newspaper Library microfilm... there is
a large collection of these from newspapers all over the State of Missouri...
if you can give me the full names, death dates, Missouri location of death
or where lived at death... I might be able to find obituaries... I have been
working with info from an online Missouri Newspaper Death Index... which
I found as a free Ancestry database for a few days... but might be able to
find others if I know the above info... as for format take a look at the
Missouri Census webpages that I have ie off link "Missouri Census Index - by
county and household"... you can see the format there... just type up
as text and email to me as an attachment... I will place a common HTML
header and trailer around the text data to make a webdocument... or
insert the text into the appropriate spont on the existing HTML webdocument...
> Thanks for your patience, Ron
Nice to meet an "unknown" relative and share "unknown" experiences...
:-)... will talk to you later...

Lawrence PRECHT was Leann's grandfather's older brother. I believe that only
the descendants of Lawrence PRECHT and Edna LYLE would be directly related to
Leann, others would be by marriage?
