Montgomery Standard, Montgomery County, Montgomery City, Missouri, 6 November 1985 Leola Bishop Dies In Florida; Rites Thursday. Montgomery City - Memorial services for Miss Leola Bishop, 87, of Seminole, Fla., who died there Oct 28, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City. The Rev. Leo Daugherty, pastor of the Montgomery City Baptist Church, of which Miss Bishop was a member, will officiate. Interment of the remains will be at the Montgomery City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday. Miss Bishop was a retired school teacher, having taught in Mexico from 1944-47. She had traveled in the United States and Canada, as well as other countries, before and after her retirement. She had lived in Florida since 1974. She is survived by two brothers, Floyd Bishop, of Vandalia, and Wendell Bishop, of Montgomery City; three sisters, Floy Risch, of St Louis, Mary Virginia Seitz, of Falls Church, Va., and Alice C. Fryer, of Little Rock, Ark. A sister, Alma, and two brothers, Harry and Wilford, preceded her in death. Miss Bishop received her elementary education in Montgomery County rural schools, graduated from Montgomery City High in 1919, attended Hardin Junior College in Mexico from 1920-22, then taught three years at a high school in Kansas while working on her A.B. degree which she received in 1926 from the University of Missouri in Columbia. In 1934 she received an M.A. degree in math from Columbia University, Lincoln School, in New York City, then taught math at Hancock Place Schools in St Louis County, holding that position until 1965, except for brief interludes when she taught at Greenbrier College in Lewisburg, W.Va., and in Mexico.
