Obituary Sarah Elizabeth (Bishop) Smith,
Montgomery County, Missouri, 19 Dec 1909

Montgomery Standard, Montgomery County, Missouri, 21 January 1910

Sallie Bishop Smith, the subject of this sketch, was born and raised at the
old [David J and Harriet (McCormack)-wfb] Bishop home ten miles west of Montgomery
City. She and her twin sister, Mrs Maggie Clement, were the oldest of a family
of eleven children. Their mother having died while the most of the children
were small, the care of the family fell on the two oldest girls, and though
their ages were the same, still they all looked to Sallie as the head of the
house. This duty she never shirked, taking a mother's care and responsibility
on her young shoulders. She united with the M.E. church while young and
remained a faithful member to the last. She was sick for more than a year,
and though her sufferings were intense, no one ever heard her murmur, but
expressed herself as being ready to go. On December 19th she fell into a
peaceful sleep and quietly passed away.
At her request she was buried at Bethel church, her funeral being
preached by Rev. Bowles. She leaves a husband, daughter, two sisters, one
brother and a host of friends to mourn her death. Those who knew her best
loved her most.
