Montgomery Standard, Montgomery City, Missouri, 21 March 1924 John R Bishop Dead. John Richard Bishop was born in Warren county, Mo., April 9, 1849, and died of heart trouble at the home of his son in St Charles Monday, March 17, 1924, aged 74 years, 11 months and 8 days. On June 3, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen S. Sheets. Twelve children were born to this union, eleven sons and one daughter; three of the boys preceeded their father to the land beyond. Eight sons and one daughter survive him. They are: Charles, Oscar, Fred, Lancester, in St Louis; John, Rufus, Jefferson, of St Charles; Lafayette and Mrs. Chas. Werges of Montgomery. He was the youngest of five children. Some 45 years ago he professed religion and united with the Little Bethel Primitive Baptist church. After the death of his wife, which ocurred Jan. 30, 1919, he made his home with his children and grandson, excepting four months which he spent in California. He was a kind, loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his large circle of relatives and friends. His remains were brought to Montgomery Tuesday night and taken to the home of his son-in-law, Charles Werges, and funeral services held Thursday, March 20 at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. R.E. McQuie, and his body laid to rest beside his faithful wife in the Montgomery cemetery.
