Montgomery City Montgomery Standard, Montgomery County, Missouri, 7 February 1919 Ellen S. Sheets was born at the home of her parents, Ben and Mary Sheets, near Hawk Point, Lincoln county, November 8, 1848, and died at her home in Montgomery City January 30, 1919, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 22 days. She was married to John R. Bishop June 3, 1866. To this union were born 12 children, 2 preceeding her to the grave. The surviving children are Charles, Oscar, Fred and Lake of St Louis; Rufus, Jefferson, and John of St Charles; Benjamin and Lafayette of Montgomery City; Mrs Chas. Werges of Bellflower. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Laura Cornelius of Oklahoma and Mrs. Cordelia Brown of Arkansas, one brother, Jos Sheets of Wellsville, 36 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren to morn her death. Mrs. Bishop's girlhood and early life was spent in Lincoln county; she then moved to St Charles, where she lived 15 years, and the past 9 years has made her home in Montgomery City. She was a devoted Christian woman, having united with the primitive Baptist church some 40 years ago, during a meeting conducted by Rev. Peter Bransletter. Mrs Bishop was practically an invalid the past two years caused from complication of diseases; yet she bore all cheerfully. Her patience and forebearance should be a lesson never forgotten. Truly it can be said there never lived a better mother, a kinder neighbor or a more faithful friend. After services at the house by her pastor, Rex Barlett, her remains were interred in the city cemetery. Her nine sons were pall bearers, six active and three honorary. May the peace so justly earned be hers.
