Bill       Thanks for the information [about Samuel Bishop born 1779 in Wilkes County, NC, on WorldConnect], this is a son of Roger a grandson of Roger Sr. who died in Maryland in 1766 he didn't come to N.C. This Samuel would stay and died in Wilkes co N.C about 1840. There are three Samuels in that family. The one I want to know about is a Samuel who was born in Maryland in 1754 - is he the same one that came to Clay co Kentucky.  By the census the dates are correct and he did leave Wilkes after 1787, but I have no proof this is the same fellow. But I was aware that he had fifty acres of land and my hope is that the deed may mention where he was from. There is a Samuel Bishop who comes to Mercer co Ky in 1796 and is listed there is in the 1800 census. In the first tax list 1807 for Clay co Ky there are three Bishops - George, James Jr and Samuel. I don't think there is a connect with George who is from the Capt John Bishop line of Va. In the 1810 census there is one male 45 or older in the household and he would have died in 1811 as he isn't listed on the tax rolls in 1811. His wife's name is Racheal and has 2 sons and 2 daughters by the census in 1810. I think that Vacheal Bishop from Maryland shows in Mercer co Ky about 1804 . There may be a connection or maybe not, hard to say. Noone can explain James Jr since he only shows up once in the tax rolls. George, goes back to S.C. By 1810 would be the only Bishop mentioned in the census rolls .His son Samuel Jr would show up in the 1811 tax rolls and in 1814 his son William would show up in the tax rolls. One of daughters would marry a Jones and would be in the first settement of Washington State. The other daughter would marry a Allen and would remain in Clay. Both sons died in 1826, family lore has it they pick up a bug, and back then if you got it, you were dead.  Some odd his wife could write I found a note by her, that is Racheal the wife of Samuel Sr and Avis Bishop wife of Roger Sr. in Wilkes co N.C would sign her will.  I also found a note signed by William Bishop. But the younger members do not appear to be able to write.  I have a feeling there would be no schools in that area. Both sons could write but not the daughters. However the mother could.  That is what I find actually find odd and it also happend in the Allen family. Older members of the family could read and write but not younger ones.     Bill I tell all this so you will know what I know.I want thank you for the efforts to help me .I still think that thing on Princess Dianna was a pretty good find but those are the upper class Bishops.  But they are Bishops and they are part of the group of 6 or 7 bothers or cousins who went from New England  to both New Jersey and New York on Long Island. I'm fairly certain that is the same group. However I may come from the Bishops on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that is Henry Bishop. Hard to say.  Best Regards,   Mike Bishop

Bill      I am going to call Wilkes co NC and see what happens. I wanted to mention a couple websites on genealogy I find fairly good . You can look at them and see what you think. AncestryPlus a lot information there and GeneNet slow but good.  I may have to make a trip to Wilkes.    Best Regards,  Mike Bishop

William,        They call me Mike. Do you use Bill? After thinking about this, I think I should try to contact someone in Wilkes co. NC or go there myself. That Samuel Bishop had 50 acres of land and something happened with the land. Maybe it would say Samuel Bishop of Clay co Ky. I hope so.        Best Regards,    Mike Bishop

William   Maybe you can help with my problem. There is an Ann Baker who does work here in Ky. Do you know her? In 1807 there are three Bishops in Clay co Ky - George, Samuel and a James Jr.  George is from S.C. and comes  from the Capt. John Bishop in Va.  I don't think we have any connection with him.. In 1800 there is a Samuel Bishop in Mecer co Ky since there appears to be only one Samuel this may be him. Vachel Bishop comes from Maryland a little later. In 1810 there is only Samuel Bishop in Clay co Ky.  I think there is a Mike Bishop who does work on Mercer co Ky.        Mike Bishop

William      I found that [info about Nimrod Bishop of Boone County, Missouri] and thought I sent it to you. The guy Nimrod Bishop [of Boone County, Missouri] who went California [during the 1849 gold rush days] is the son of Nimrod Bishop who moved to Green co. Ohio in 1856 and died there.  I think there are three of them . Nimrod Sr is the son of Joshua Bishop of Baltimore, Maryland. I think there is a connection to Levin Bishop born Maryland 4 Oct 1789. I saw something on the Green co Ohio that maybe the Wilkes co NC Bishops went to Green co Ohio.. I'm not sure. But they do have a Maryland connection I think.  Mike Bishop

William     It appears to me that Thomas Bishop descends from a John Bishop (his grandfather) that went to Woodbridge, Essex, New Jersey, from Newbury, Mass. If that is correct I have found some information on one of his sons.        Mike Bishop

William          I think the Bishops from  Mercer, Nelson, Henry, Trigg, Christian and Hopkins Kentucky counties are the same qroup from Maryland.  Some of them are Quakers and some are Roman Catholics. I might be wrong but I think this is the same family.  And yes some of them went to Missouri.  I wish I had proof if the Bishops from Clay county are or not.  If they were Germans like the Pike co Bishops that's o.k. Just so I know.    Mike Bishop

Laura Bishop Francis of Austin, TX, who is a descendant of Walker Hampton, has given permission to contact her.  I can provide an e-mail address later.  She is a careful researcher and documents everything.         Miriam Ambrose Engelhorn

William          Please check all your emails. I sent you a lot of information by other emails. Harford was formed from Baltimore co and was settled by Quakers and Catholics as I understand it. One thing is now clear the Wilkes co N.C. Bishops come from Harford, Maryland. Roger Bishop had abt 100 -200 acres of land and five slaves when he died. Not a wealthy man. But I do think he was a Quaker. Maybe they came from the Eastern Shore there are some Quakers there.    Best Regards,    Mike Bishop

William,         At this time we have been unable to get Samuel Bishop out of Clay co Ky. He came there around 1807. There was a Samuel Bishop in Mercer co Ky in 1800. But we have no proof that is him. The way the Wilkes Co N.C.came up was rather odd. A woman in Washington State told me that she had a will by Avis Bishop in 1784 and send it to me. She then told me that she could send what information she had on the family. There just happened to a William G Bishop who had a son named Walker Hampton Bishop who was said to be born in Clay co Ky in 1813.  We did find a George Bishop in the area around that time. Later my cousin found where a lady in Kansas had a Anderson S Bishop born in Clay co Ky along with Walker Hampton Bishop. Samuel Sr. died about 1811 but had 2 sons William and Samuel Jr. William G. Bishop shows up in Richmond Ind a Quaker town. He ends up in Mclean co Ill. There was some information about him on Ancestryplus and I found Laura Bishop Francis who had a great deal of information on him. She said that she was fairly certain he was a Quaker and was shocked to find out that the family had slaves. But the family spilt over this issue. A lot hard feelings as I understand it. The slaves ended up with another family. She now has proof that William G. was the son of Francis who was the son of Roger of Maryland I think maybe not. I do not have proof that Samuel that was born in 1754 in Md is the fellow that came to Clay co Ky. But he was given a slave and fifty acres of land. The slave he didn't keep and at this time I don't know if he sold the slave etc or what happened to the land. Maybe a deed there would say Samuel Bishop of Clay co Ky. Hope so.        Best Regards,    Mike Bishop

William     Do the following, to Google put in Samuel Bishop genealogy and find "I dream of Genealogy Family History Research" third one down. I think the last Bishop in her line was in 1812, Lucy Bishop I think in Maryland. This comes from Thomas Bishop of Ipswich, Massachusetts, he is a well to do man for that period. I am from the Clay county, Kentucky, Bishops  and we are trying to get Samuel Bishop out of Kentucky. I'm fairly certain we have no connection to these people. I think we come from a guy in Harford, Maryland, by the name of Roger Bishop, the family about 1775 moved to Wilkes county, N.C. It appears to me the family are Quakers that had slaves, Roger died in 1766 with 5 slaves and in 1769 the Quakers said that you could no longer have slaves, so they came south. Thomas Bishop was a wealthy man so that wouldn't be us.            Best Regards,  David Micheal Bishop
