    There is some question of w hat William G.'s middle name is. These
    names are suggested by family members: George, Gurney or Glover.
    In 1905 William's son Pleasant said that his father was born in NC
    moving to SC and then to GA to TN to AL to IN to IL. In 1850 W illiam
    says he was born in North Carolina and in 1860 he said TN. There is a
    family legend saying that when William G was 3 yrs of age his father
    died in a fall or from being thrown from a horse. It is also said that
    his father's n ame was Frank and that he had an uncle named Nathan who
    was a distiller. His mother was to have married a Mr. Elmore. William
    and Mr. Elmore are said to ha ve not gotten along and at a young age Mr.
    Elmore apprenticed William to a cab inet maker. William became a cotton
    gin maker in the South and by about 1820-2 4 he moved his family from
    Alabama to Wayne Co., IN. It is said that he was v ery much against the
    use of slaves and did not want to raise his family in an area that there
    was slavery.
    I have found a William "B" Bishop in Wayne Co., IN in 1820 however
    have no proof that this is William G. I believe it is Will iam because
    of the ages of the children listed. There is an older male in the house
    hold and I do not know who this could be but with several of the
    childr en claiming birth in Wayne Co., IN; I feel that this is very
    possibly our Will iam G.
    There has been no record of William G. in any of the Wayne Co., papers
    searched so far. 25 Aug 1992
