After seeing several references that our family has a connection to President George Washington, I wanted to see what it was....
There is indeed a 'connection', but it is so far stretched, that is almost a joke. Anyway, since I did check it out, I thought I would go ahead and post it. It's hard to follow, but you'll see at the end....
John Washington (born about 1623, England) and Anne Pope had several children including:
Lawrence and Richard Washington.
Lawrence Washington and Mildred Warner had:
Augustine, whose second wife was Mary Ball.
Augustine and Mary were the parents of George Washington.
Richard Washington and Elizabeth Jordan were parents of Elizabeth Washington.
(This makes her 1st cousin, once removed from George Washington)
Elizabeth Washington married Sampson Lanier.
Their son, Thomas Lanier married Anne Maclin.
Their son, Drury Lanier married Tabitha Eaves.
Their daughter, Tabitha Lanier married Samuel Seward.
Samuel Seward was brother to Elizabeth Seward (that married Jacob Braswell).
Elizabeth Seward Braswell is my 4th great grandmother.
Ok..... here it is............
My 4th Great Grandmother's brother married the Great Grand-Daughter of the 1st Cousin, once removed, of George Washington.
I'm sure all relatives are thrilled to know our connection.
And of course, George Washington and Robert E Lee were also related in this same fashion. I'll post that next time I have a couple of days to kill.
