Bruce is the son of Peter M. McCune, Son of Peter P. McCune. We met Bruce on a McCune search mission while visiting my parents in West Virginia. :) We had been driving around looking at McCune grave sites all day. So we decided to stop at a Post Office I went in and asked the lady if there was any McCunes living in the area. Boy did I get a strange look. Then I explained that were we doing some research. Anyway they sent us in Bruce's direction. We drove up this road looking for (yes, Strange I know) anyone looking maybe like a McCune? But guess what we hit the jack pot.. We passed a house near the end of the road, my son yelled from the back of my van, there's a sign that says McCune on that old building. (I thought oh yes I'm sure) Almost to the point of calling him a liar. (shame on me). We then turned around in the next possible place heading back down the road towards the house. (Sure enough there was an small old sign lying against an old building " McCune") I asked my father should I stop and ask him if they are McCunes? We pulled up into his driveway (myself, my wife, both my parents & my 2 children in the van) and this gentleman came out in the yard. I said Sir this may seem very strange but are you a McCune? He looked very deep into our eyes, after sizing us up a bit he said yes I am. We then told him that we also were McCunes researching the family. After a while of talking we found out that his Grandfather and my Great Grandfather were brothers. His father being Peter P. McCune and my G-Grandfather Thomas Pleasant McCune. Their parents were Peter & Martha McCune. Since that time Bruce & his brother Norville have become very good friends with my father Jack McCune. Dads tries to visit them a couple times a year. He enjoys spending time with them listening to their stories of the past. They are 2 very special guys! |
