1. CARL (KARL)1 WERK(1206) was born Germany March 18, 1842. CARL died May 30, 1920 at 78 years of age.(1207) Grant Co. Courthouse-recorder's office Index page 438 Book E, page 89, line 76 His body was interred Lakeside Cemetery.

He married AMELIE KUBATH. AMELIE was born Germany November 21, 1839. AMELIE(1208) was the daughter of AMELIE'S FATHER KUBATH and KUBATH'S WIFE. AMELIE died April 4, 1921 in Roseville Twp, at 81 years of age.(1209) Amelia also contracted pneumonia (5 days) at the time of her death according to the Death Register at the Grant Co. Courthouse. J. Leland was the attending physician and the undertaker was R.C. Johnson. Conjugal Condition noted in the register "M".

Destination: destination unknown. At 32 years of age AMELIE became the mother of ERNEST A. WERK Oshkosh, Wi, January 7, 1872. At 36 years of age AMELIE became the mother of CHARLES "CHARLIE" WERK Osh Kosh, Wi, July 18, 1876. At 38 years of age AMELIE became the mother of WILLIAM "BILL" WERK Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn, December 7, 1877. At 41 years of age AMELIE became the mother of ERWIN "ADOLPH" WERK Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn, April 15, 1881. At 43 years of age AMELIE became the mother of OSCAR WERK Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn, December 17, 1882.

At 27 years of age CARL became the father of MARY WERK in Ratzebuhr, Pomerania, Germany, March 25, 1869. At 29 years of age CARL became the father of ERNEST A. WERK Oshkosh, Wi, January 7, 1872. At 34 years of age CARL became the father of CHARLES "CHARLIE" WERK Osh Kosh, Wi, July 18, 1876. At 35 years of age CARL became the father of WILLIAM "BILL" WERK Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn, December 7, 1877. At 39 years of age CARL became the father of ERWIN "ADOLPH" WERK Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn, April 15, 1881. At 40 years of age CARL became the father of OSCAR WERK Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn, December 17, 1882. Carl represents the first of our branch of the Werk family in America. Carl & Amelie Werk, emigrated from Ratzebuhr, Pomerania, Germany to Oshkosh, WI. in the year of 1870. Mary, their daughter, was age 1 at the time of the trip. Carl and Amelie later migrated from Oshkosh, WI and settled in rural Roseville Township east of Herman, Grant Co. MN. Their two children, Mary (age 9) and Ernest (age 6) accompanied them on the trip. While Herman had only become an official town just a few years prior in 1871, Carl and his family represented a great surge of population migrating west. The 1895 population of Roseville Township reached a total of 177 that had been born on Foreign Soil. Those were as follows: Canada 1 England 2 Germany 27 Norway 41 Sweden 106 An additional 276 people were born in America for a total population of 453 people. The Werk were of mainly German and Dutch decent, but at this time is it unknown as to whether or not Carl was born in Germany or not. Many of the Carl Werk family descendants have maintained their residence in the same area within Roseville as well as in Macsville Township. Last edited on 28 AUG 1999 in source program.

child 2 i. MARY2 WERK(1210) was born in Ratzebuhr, Pomerania, Germany March 25, 1869. MARY died September 21, 1940 at 71 years of age. She married CARL AUGUST "OTTO", SR. LUENEBURG December 9, 1901. CARL was born in Ratzebuhr, Pomerania, Germany October 12, 1869. CARL(1211) was the son of EDWARD LUENEBURG and ALBERTINE KUBATH. CARL died February 8, 1936 at 66 years of age. CARL immigrated, 1874. Destination: destination unknown. At 32 years of age CARL became the father of MARY LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, September 23, 1902. At 34 years of age CARL became the father of ELEANORE LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, September 13, 1904. At 36 years of age CARL became the father of OTTO, JR. LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, March 14, 1906. At 38 years of age CARL became the father of IDA LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, December 8, 1907. At 40 years of age CARL became the father of EARNEST LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, April 11, 1910. (See CARL AUGUST "OTTO", SR. LUENEBURG for the continuation of this line.)

At 33 years of age MARY became the mother of MARY LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, September 23, 1902. At 35 years of age MARY became the mother of ELEANORE LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, September 13, 1904. At 36 years of age MARY became the mother of OTTO, JR. LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, March 14, 1906. At 38 years of age MARY became the mother of IDA LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, December 8, 1907. At 41 years of age MARY became the mother of EARNEST LUENEBURG in Center, Oliver Co. Nd, April 11, 1910. Moved to Center, Oliver Co. ND following her marriage. Mary's husband, Otto, was also her first cousin. Mary's mother, Amelia, and Otto's mother were sisters. While marrying a cousin wouldn't be the norm under current day's terms, prior to current day it was quite common to see cousins marry. Last edited on 21 AUG 1999 in source program.

child 3 ii. ERNEST A. WERK (1212) was born Oshkosh, Wi January 7, 1872. ERNEST died April 4, 1956 in Fergus Falls, Ottertail Co. Mn, at 84 years of age. Ernest had been failing in health throughout the winter preceding is death. Ernest has pneumonia, then suffered a heart attack on March 31. He was taken to the hospital where he then suffered a stroke on April 3 of which he never recovered. His body was interred April 7, 1956 Grant Co. Mn, Lakeside Cemetery.

His funeral was held Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn, April 7, 1956. The following individual is also linked to this event: O.N. TRUOG (minister). MN pianist: Mrs. Willard Giese singer: Harvey Kietzman pallbearers: nephews Otto Lueneburg, Ervin Smith, Richard Werk, Harvey Werk, Harold Werk, Lester Werk honorary pallbearers: "anyone who called him friend" Ernest never married, however, as a young man started farming for himself for a number of years in Delaware Township, Grant Co. MN. Ernest later purchased a farm on the east end of Cottonwood Lake, Macsville Township, Grant Co. MN. Upon his death, Ernest's farm and land was passed on to his nephew, Harvey Werk. As quoted from his obituary, Ernest was a quiet, hard working, unassuming man. His chief pleasures were hunting and fishing of which there was an abundance in his earlier days. child 6 v. ERWIN "ADOLPH" WERK (1213) was born Roseville Township, Grant Co. Mn April 15, 1881. ERWIN died May 8, 1964 Elbow Lake, Grant Co. Mn, at 83 years of age. His body was interred May 11, 1964 Herman, Grant Co. Mn, Lakeside Cemetery. His funeral was held Herman, Grant Co. Mn, May 11, 1964. The following individual is also linked to this event: REVEREND (FIRST METHODIST CHURCH OF HERMAN) MCNEIL (minister). pallbearers: (6 nephews) Norman Werk, Lowell Werk, Gary Smith, Glen Werk, Harold Werk, Otto Lueneburg. Adolph lived and farmed in the Herman, Grant Co. MN area his entire life. He retired in 1946 and moved to Herman, Grant Co. MN. Aldoph lived in the nursing home in Elbow Lake, Grant Co.
