At 31 years of age Robert became the father of Ralph DAWSON in Tynemouth, 9 December 1848. At 33 years of age Robert became the father of Mary DAWSON in Tynemouth, 7 July 1850. At 40 years of age Robert became the father of Dorothy Hunter DAWSON in South Street, North Shields, 26 July 1857. At 44 years of age Robert became the father of Thomas William DAWSON in North Shields, Northumberland, 22 November 1861. He was listed as head of household in the 1871 census in North Shields, Tynemouth.
