First Generation

1. William1 MCKENZIE (#263) was born approx 1776. William's age was given as 70 on 1841 census and as ages were rounded down to the nearest five, then he was born between 1767 and 1770. He married twice. He married Isabel HENDERSON in Bowden, Roxburghshire, 20 November 1803. The entry appears in the OPRs (1697-1820) for Bowden and there would seem to be only one William McKenzie around so whether this was a record of an intended marriage or a marriage and whatever happened to Isabel is not known, Did she die or never marry. Whatever is certain is that William is shown as the father of George in 1808 with wife Janet Brown in the Bowden OPRs. No marriage has been found but this is not unusual in the Borders' kirk records.
