Hello my name is Emma Lou (Nicholson) Weldon and I am from Gainesville, Florida.

My husband is William Murphy (Bill) Weldon. He was City Manager and Utilities Director of Starke, Florida and is now retired.

We both are very interested in genealogy and tracing our roots.

Bill's grandmother was Annie Lillian Murphy,  who could speak gaelic and dance the highland fling. Her great grandfather was the immigrant ancestor Thomas McMurchy from Kintyre Scotland. McMurchy is a sept of Clan Donald so we have become very active in all things Scottish. Bill is presently Regional Commissioner for Florida Clan Donald. (I am now the Regional Treasurer.)  He also has ties to other clans including: McMillan, Ray, Currie, Wilkinson.

The DNA project has been a great help. I connected with a descendant of my grandfather's brother, whom I have never met. 

 William was born in 1797 in Mecklenburg NC.  All we know for sure is that William was mentioned as a grandson of John in John's will.

My mother's grandmother on her father's side was a Gordon; Mother's grandmother on her mother's side was a Robertson; and my father's great grandmother on his mother's side was Hay; and of course my Nicholson surname coming from Clan MacNichol - giving me four connections to Scottish clans.

I have included the Clan Donald DNA project on this site. Since the DNA test is male to male and Bill's grandmother was a Murphy, we got a cousin from Texas to take the test for him.  We have no match at this time, but hopefully there will be some other Murphy's that will participate.
