Luzerne County Births: 1893 to mid 1905 ONLY The birth registers at the Luzerne Co. courthouse contain the name, date of birth, the town, the FIRST name of the mother (no maiden name) and the first and last name of the father. Some of the entries also state the full address of the residence, but not all of them. The recording of Births was on a voluntary basis, so many families did not report the event. The state took over in 1906, and those records can be ordered from the Bureau of Vital Statistics in New Castle, PA, The cost is $10.00 for a birth certificate, but there are certain criteria to meet. For births AFTER 1905, please visit their web site at: http://www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/health/cwp/view.asp?a=168&Q=202184 Please make sure to put "BIRTHS" in the subject line so our researchers know it is not SPAM.
