MARGARET SUSANNAH CASTON Died in Lancasterville, on the 20th February 1863 Margaret Susannah, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glass Caston, aged 16 years and 10 days. (eulogy) She had been for several years a member of the M. E. Church, and she loved the Sabbath School. ISABELLA HARRIET CONNORS A mother in Israel has fallen. Mrs. Isabella Harriet Connors, died at her residence in Lancasterville, S. C., on Thursday evening, the 7th of February, 1861, having passed the 61st year of her life, the 41st since her marriage, and nearly completed the 13th of her widowhood. She died of consumption, after an illness of about five months; it is believed that she had been a member of the Baptist Church nearly 40 years. Her father was Samuel Wootten, a native of New Jersey, and a Revolutionary Soldier. He was among the Continental troops sent South in 1780 under the command of General Gates. Ater the death of the latter near Camden, he followed the fortunes of his successor; Gen. Greene; and served during the remainder of the war of Independence in South Carolina. At the close of the war he settled in Orangeburg, S. C., where the subject of this notice was born. MRS. SUSANNAH I. COUSART Died near Lancasterville, on the morning of the 12th inst., Mrs. Susannah I. Cousart, wife of R. H. Cousart, and daughter of James and Elizabeth Dunlap, in the 29th year of her age member of the Associate Reformed Congregation at Shilo Church. MRS. ELISABETH CRAIG Died at her residence in Union Co., N. C., 23d Nov., 1856, Mrs. Elisabeth Craig, in the 63 year of her age; connected herself with the congregation worshipping at Tirza. After her marriage, she transferred her membership to Shiloh, her husband being a member of that body; younger sister of A. J. Nesbit, Esq. Her husband, all her children and grandchildren except Sanford, son of H. Wilson, Esq., preceded her into the spiritual world. MR. JAMES CROCKETT Died at his residence in Lancaster District, on the 26th day of July, Mr. James Crockett, in the 67th year of his age; born in York District, and educated in Lancaster District. NANCY LOUISE CROCKETT Lancaster - Miss Crockett, 91, of 2365 Riverside Road, Lancaster, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004 at the Westminster Towers in Rock Hill. She was born February 22, 1913, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Rufus Calhoun and Nannie Estelle Lathan Crockett. Miss Crockett was a member of the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She graduated as Valedictorian from Lancaster High School in 1929 and magna cum laude from Winthrop College in Rock Hill in 1933. After spending forty-five years in education in the public schools of South Carolina, first as a teacher on both the elementary and high school levels and later retiring as principal from the Rice Elementary School in Lancaster. Miss Crockett spent her remaining years researching and compiling family history and the history of Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church and Cemetery. Through the years, she received many honors and awards. Most notable was the 1962 Valley Forge Classroom Teacher's Medal presented by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, an organization which is dedicated to the preservation of the American Way of Life. She also received the 1968 Lederer-Lawson Award from the Waxhaw Historical Festival and Drama Association for her dedication to preserving the history of the Waxhaws. Miss Crockett assisted Louise Pettus in the writing of "The Waxhaws". The book was published in 1993. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church by Pastor Bill Summer. Burial will be in the Old Waxhaw Church Cemetery. Miss Crockett is survived by a brother, Rufus L. Crockett and his wife, Mary, of Lutz, Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John F. RUFUS CROCKETT Died Aug. 8, 2006 Retired United States Air Force Lt. Col. Rufus Lathan Crockett, 88, of Lutz, Fla., died Tuesday in Newland, N.C. A service to celebrate his life was to be held today at 11 a.m. at the Old Crockett Home place in Lancaster, S.C., with Pastor William B. Sumner, retired USAF Major General William Gilbert, and retired USAF Colonel Malcom Jewell officiating. Burial was to be in the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Lt. Col. Crockett was a son of the late Rufus Calhoun Crockett and Estelle Lathan Crockett. He was the former Deputy Assistant of Air Force Installations. Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Crockett of Lutz, Fla.; one son, John Lathan Crockett of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Marilyn Crockett Marion of Vero Beach, Fla.; and one grandson. The family received friends at the home place, 2365 Riverside Road, Lancaster, S.C., on Thursday. Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family.
