Levi Wilcox was born circa 1832 according to census records most likely Ohio. There is speculation that he may be a son of Benjamin Wilcox and wife Catherine but no proof has been found to substantiate this except he is shown on a census record in their household but no relationship is given for the members shown, and his first two children are named George Benjamin and Catherine Lydia. On November 24, 1853 in Menard County, Illinois, Levi married Elizabeth Alkire who was born June 14, 1836 in Illinois, died June 2, 1893 and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Sumner, Pierce County, Washington. (see Alkire line here) Although they are shown in the 1887 territorial census for Washington Territory there is no record of Levi past 1896 where he is residing in a hotel in Tacoma, Washington with his two younger children, Odelia & Arthur. To this union was born 12 children (although the name of one remains unknown and another has not been proven), namely: Catherine Lydia "Kitty" aka Lydia Catherine, George Benjamin, Alice, Ellen, Jennie, Nancy (Ada Nancy), Laura Z., Charles Edward, David (not proven), Odelia "Delia", Arthur Alkire. 1. Catherine Lydia Wilcox has also been shown as Lydia Catherine was known as "Kitty" to her immediate family. She was born circa 1855, shown married age 15 to J. C. Dowdy and living in household of her parents in 1870 census; had a daughter Odelia "Eda" Dowdy, and shown in the 1880 census as the wife of O. B. "Charles" Thorpe and Odelia is shown as his 8 year old step-daughter. In the 1885 Nebraska State census she is shown as Catherine Wilcox with daughter Odelia age 13 in the household of her parents. Kitty again married after arriving in Washington Territory to Jay Stillman on July 24, 1888. She is shown in several Tacoma City Directories as a Milliner. No other records have been found for her. 2. George Benjamin Wilcox was born April 25, 1858 in Tazewell County, Illinois, died April 13, 1924 Stevens County, Washington. They were the parents of Minnie, James William, Mabel Sarah, George Lafayette and Earl M. The 1900 census indicates "Jennie" was the mother of 6 with 5 living and although we were always told that Earl was a twin to Purl this has never been proven.
