Ralph W. Gividen retired
from Cummins Engine

Ralph W. Gividen, 86, of Scipio, died at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at his home.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home, Westport, with the Rev. Robert E. Lay officiating. Calling will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery.

Born Feb. 6, 1912, in Jennings County, he was the son of Ottis and Mucie Waughtel Gividen. He married Agnes Florine Spears in April 1936 at Jeffersonville. She died July 20, 1978.

Mr. Gividen retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1974 after 33 years of service. He was a member of Redman Lodge in Grammer and a life-long resident of Jennings County.

Survivors include a son, Larry Gividen of Floyd Knobs; a brother, Maurice Gividen of Scipio; three sisters, Virginia Owens of Columbus, Eugenia Shraner of Florida and Iris Lewis of Scipio; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gerry W. Gividen; a brother, Charles Gividen; and four sisters, Opal Gividen, Leota Gividen, Ada Gividen and Evelyn Miller.
