Descendants of John Sinex

 

John Sinex was born December 27, 1794 in Delaware, and died March 04, 1882 in New Albany, Indiana.  He married Mary Stetzer about or before 1818 in Delaware.  Mary was born about 1796 in New Jersey according to census records, and died January 04, 1853 in New Albany, Indiana.  John held the position of Floyd County Coroner for over 18 years; he was a brother to Brewer Sinex, Thomas Sinex, Elizabeth Sinex (who married a cousin, another John Sinex) & Nancy Sinex.  There is mentioned other siblings, possibly Mary Derrickson Sinex who stayed in the east and is buried in Philadelphia, but names are unknown at this time.  Born to the union of John Sinex and Mary Stetzer were, namely, as follows:  Sarah, Jane, Jacob McCulley, Thomas Randall, James Stetzer, Lewis White, Edward W. "Neddy", Catherine McCullough, and Joseph.

 

1.  Sarah Sinex was born December 14, 1818, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

2.  Jane Sinex  was born about 1820 in New Jersey, and died December 14, 1894 in City Insane Hospital, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.  She married Augustus Jocelyn on August 27, 1840 in the Methodist Episcopal Church.  Augustus was born about 1821 New Haven, Connecticut, and died March 11, 1873.  Children born to the marital union of Jane Sinex and Augustus Jocelyn are, as follows:

 

a.  Decatur S. Jocelyn was born in July 1841 and died November 22, 1912, New Albany, Floyd County,  Indiana.   He married (1) Amanda M. Prindle on April 17, 1864 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  She died October 14, 1879 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  He married (2) Emma Amelia Smithwick on October 21, 1880 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  She was born October 1849 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, and died about 1936 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  He served in the Civil War enlisted as a Private and mustered out at Full Corporal.

                                               

b.  Augustus Jocelyn was born about 1846, died July 02, 1883 and is buried at Fairview Cemetery.

 

c.  Helen Caroline Jocelyn was born about 1847.  She has also been shown as Ellen.

 

d.  Charles Jocelyn was born about 1851 and is shown in the 1860 census but evidently died prior to the 1870 census.

 

e.  John Jocelyn was born about 1853 as indicated in the 1860 census but is not in the 1870 census.

 

f.  Hannah Rebekah Jocelyn (obit) was born about 1855 and died 1881 in Evansville, Indiana.

                                         

g.  George Jocelyn was born about 1857 as is shown as a 2 year old in the 1860 census but not shown in the 1870 census.

 

h.  James William Jocelyn was born about February 1859 according to the 1860 census and as a ten year old in the 1870 census.

 

3.  Jacob McCulley Sinex was born July 1, 1822 in Stanton, New Jersey and died November 23, 1822 in Newport, Delaware.

 

4.  Thomas Randall Sinex was born October 18, 1823 in Newport,  New Castle County, Delaware, died December 22, 1886 and buried February 23, 1887, Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  He married Ruth Ann Conrad on February 3, 1842 in Floyd County, Indiana.  Ruth Ann was born about 1823 in Tennessee, and buried February 25, 1896, Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  Children born to the marital union of Thomas R. Sinex and Ruth Ann Conrad, are as follows:

 

a.  Mary C. "Mollie" Sinex was born in July 1851, Indiana, died/buried March 1, 1926.  She married Kennard A. Lawrey and one known child, a son Harry Lawrey.  Harry married Blanche nee' and they had four children, namely:  Leonard, Jessie M., Ruth & Georgia C.

 

b.  Lucelia C./Cecelia Sinex was born in December 1843.  She married Benjamin Dalby and they had one known son Thomas F. Dalby.

 

5.  James Stetzer Sinex was born November 08, 1827 in Delaware, and died August 30, 1896 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana and buried August 31, 1896, Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  He married Sarah Ann Shields on May 2, 1850 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana Methodist Episcopal Church.   Sarah was born October 22, 1831 in Floyd County, Indiana, and died May 08, 1889.  Children born to the marital union of James S. Sinex and Sarah A. Shields, are as follows:

 

a.  Emma Sinex was born October 22, 1852 and died September 20, 1915 in Board Sanitarium, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.  She was buried September 22, 1915 Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana.

 

b.  Charles H. Sinex was born about 1856 and died January 27, 1933, (month not shown but estimated from other items on page).  He married Mary Manley on  December 28,          1886.  Mary was born about 1868 and died about 1909.

 

c.   Nancy/Nannie Sinex was born April 05, 1858, New Albany, Floyd County,  Indiana, and died October 3, 1939, Elmhurst, Illinois.  She was married to Charles Walters November 28, 1889 and they had one known child, a daughter Lillian May Walters.

 

d.  Ella D. Sinex was born about 1866, married Benjamin F. Moore on June 28, 1888.  One known daughter was born to them - Grace D. Moore.

 

e.  Lillian Sinex was born about 1868, married William T. Crone on February 25, 1896 and one known child, a son Howard was born to them.

                                         

f.   Ida H. Sinex was born about 1876.  She married Lee H. Stephens. 

 

6.   Edward W. "Neddy" Sinex was born May 21, 1831 in Pennsylvania, and died November 20, 1902 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  He was married to Serena Jane Williams on August 03, 1852 in Floyd County, Indiana.  Serena was a daughter of Joseph Williams and Malinda Hatfield.  She was born 1831, and died December 02, 1905 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  Children born to the marital union of Edward W. Sinex and Serena J. Williams, are as follows:

 

a. Milla Lucillia Sinex was born July 4, 1856, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, and died    September 17, 1856, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.

 

b.  Joseph T. Sinex born about 1861 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana; died January 26, 1888.

 

c.  Ruth Martha Sinex born about 1862, married Wilbur Patton on June 25, 1885, Floyd County, Indiana (Marriage book 8 page 623).

 

d. John Edward Sinex was born about 1864, and was buried October 23, 1924 Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.

 

e.  Harry Sinex was born about 1867.

 

7.  Lewis White Sinex was born about July 30, 1829 and died prior to family moving to Indiana.

 

8.   Catherine McCullough Sinex was born about 1834 in Wilmington, Delaware, and died September 22, 1916 in Paducah, Kentucky.  She married Alfred Hicks Nunemacher on January 11, 1852 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  Alfred was a son of Conrad Nunemacher and Catherine Quigley and was born June 05, 1831 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and died March 7, 1896 in Paducah, Kentucky.  Children born to the marital union of Catherine Sinex and Alfred Nunemacher, are as follows:

 

a. William Sinex Nunemacher was born August 19, 1854, Indiana.

    

b. Katie Hicks Nunemacher was born March 17, 1860, Indiana.

 

c. Julia M. Nunemacher was born about 1862, Indiana.

 

d. Ida May Nunemacher was born April 09, 1865, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, and died March 04, 1950, Paducah, Kentucky.  She married Joseph Robert Roark and to this union was born Lionel Gregory, Ernest A., Robert F., Alfred Nunemacher and Joseph Spencer.

 

9.  Joseph Sinex was born about 1836 in Delaware, according to census records.  I do not feel he ever married.  In the 1850 census he is at home with parents, the 1860 census finds him in the household of his Uncle Thomas & Aunt Flora Sinex, in the 1870 & 1880 census he is residing in the household of his brother Thomas Randall Sinex & wife Ruth.  I have not found him after 1880 at this time.
