John H. Keith Funeral Services to Be Held at Westport Christian Church WednesdayFuneral services will be held at the Westport Christian Church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for John H. Keith, 83, who died at his home in Westport Monday afternoon after a long illness.
The Rev. J. C. Nicholson will officiate and burial will be in the Westport cemetery.
Mr. Keith, the last of his immediate family, was born in Missouri on June 3, 1865, the son of James and Susanna (Van Treese) Keith. His parents brought the family to Indiana about the time of the Civil war, where he remained since. He was a railroader since youth, at the time of his retirement about 14 years ago serving as section foreman on the Westport division of the C. M. & St. P. railroad.
He was a member of I. O. O. F. lodge No. 681 and of the Rebekahs, and belonged to the Christian church. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Effie Armstrong, of Westport, who had been living with her father, and five sons: Fred and Irwin, of Westport; Harry, of Shirley; Perry, of Gary, and William of Elwood. There are also sixteen grandchildren.
NOTE: Although the newspaper article stated year of birth as 1865, this should be 1855. The father died in the Civil War in 1863, a month after the youngest child was born.
