WASHINGTON JOURNAL
Brighton, Oct. 15 - (Special)

John D. Alkire died yesterday morning at his home at Brighton at the age of eighty-three years, the cause of death being old age and the attending
infirmities. Mr. Alkire was born August 8, 1824 in Madison County, Ohio, and the next year moved with his parents to Menard county, Illinois. In 1847 he was married to Sarah Wheeler, who lived but a couple years after their marriage, dying in 1849. In 1851 Mr. Alkire was married a second time, this time to Sarah Mance. They moved to this county in 1856. The wife died in 1905, May 6th. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Alkire, seven of whom are still living. They are Mrs. Jennie Frain, of Brighton; Jacob Alkire, of Laquan, Ill., Mrs. Kate Smith of Atlantic; Mrs. Elliot of Rock Island; Chester Alkire of Rappicee, Ill., Milun Alkire of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. John Marshall of Brighton, at whose home the father died. Mr. Alkire was a member of the Christian Church, having confessed his faith in Christ and been baptized by John A. Cowell in 1847. He died October 14, 1907, having fought the good fight of faith, and has gone to reap his reward with the many loved ones who have gone before.

The funeral will be held tomorrow, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in Brighton Cemetery.
