Jake Alkire Died Suddenly. Suffered a Stroke a Year Ago and Never Regained His Health.
Jake Alkire died quite suddenly at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home in Brighton. He had been in poor health since about a year ago when he suffered a paralytic stroke and a few days ago was taken much worse but seemed as well as usual Tuesday, having been up and dressed when the death summons came.
Jacob F. Alkire was born Oct. 30, 1858 in Grace Hill, Washington Co., Iowa. He grew to manhood in Washington County and was married to Miss Mary Alexander of Elmwood, Ill., Dec. 2, 1903 living in Illinois until 1916 when the family moved to Brighton.
To their union two children were born Nathan C. and Iva H. Alkire at home with their mother. He also leaves two brothers and four sisters, C. A. Alkire of Morgan, Minnesota; Milum Alkire of Maguon, Ill; Mrs. Jennie Frain of Fairbury, Nebr.; Mrs. Katherine Smith of Brighton; Mrs. Mary Elliott of Rock Island, Ill; and Mrs. W. S. Parks of Brighton besides a host of friends.
The funeral services will be held at the home at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon conducted by Rev. B. P. James of the Christian church with burial in Brighton Hill Crest Cemetery.
