Edmund Franklin Jacobs was born in Puyallup on July 29th, 1918, to Maude Walker Jacobs and Claude Victor Jacobs. He reluctantly left this world on February 17th, 2005. Edmund was named after his two grandfathers, Edmund Burton Walker who was an educator and superintendent of Puyallup Schools and Benjamin Franklin Jacobs who was the first attorney in the city of Puyallup (1892) and a member of the Washington State legislature for several terms. As a young boy, he was nicknamed "Bud" and his friends, relatives and associates have called him Bud ever since.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Barbara, four children, Tom Jaocbs (Gaye), Jane Jacobs (Richard Lake), Bill Jacobs and Ed Jacobs (Stephanie), daughter-in-law Lesli Jacobs, and two sisters Esther Burkette of Auburn and Marianne Cooley of Enumclaw. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Samuel Timothy, Adam, Ryan, Alexandra (Ryan Hatfield), Jordan, and Brynn, and three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Cadence, and Ty. Bud was sadly pre-deceased by his youngest son Tim (Lesli) and his dear granddaughter Anjuli.
Bud practiced law in Puyallup for 56 years and was the second of three generations of Jacobs' lawyers. He was so proud to have Tom and Tim join him in practice at Jacobs and Jacobs. Bud was active in city government and was instrumental in bringing in the council-manager form of government to the City of Puyallup, under which he served as the first mayor. He served as City Attorney of Puyallup for many years. Bud was also involved with the Nursing Home Association of the State of Washington as an owner, a lobbyist, and as Executive Director.
Some of Bud's favorite proudest memories and stories were of the years serving as P. T. Boat Captain in WWII in both the Mediterranean and South Pacific Theatres of War. Bud became one of the youngest skippers in the fleet because of his extensive experience around boats and water. He generously shared his "expertise" and his love of the water with his children and grandchildren at their summer home at Redondo Beach. He was passionate about boating and everything associated with salt water, Puget Sound, the San Juans, and beyond.
Hunting was another of Bud's passions and he hunted locally as well as in Alaska, Canada, Africa, and Europe. He provided a place for his sons and grandsons to share this passion, in Moses Lake, WA.
Bud loved his family dearly and was a wonderful father, grandfather, and uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. He leaves a legacy of love, music, passion for the outdoors, integrity, and a keen wit to his family and friends.
