Elias Neeld
was born circa 1720 and most likely in Delaware as he married Sarah Green on July 28, 1751 in Holy Trinity/Old Swedes Church, Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware.  She was reportedly his second wife, having first married a Grace Clayton about 1747.  Sarah was born circa 1727 and died circa 1810.  Children born to the union of Elias & Sarah, are as follows:  Robert, Elias, Jane, Nathan and William.

Nathan Neeld was born circa 1760.  He was married in April 1787 to Margaret McAfee, a daughter of Robert McAfee and Anna McCown.  Children born to the union of Nathan & Margaret are as follows:  Sarah, Elias, Robert & Benjamin.

a.  Sarah born October 1, 1789 in Mercer County, Kentucky and died July 9, 1846 in Marion County, Missouri.  She was married to Joseph Blackwood March 26, 1807 with the ceremony performed by the Rev. Samuel B. Robertson (Mercer County, Kentucky  Marriage Bk 1 Pg 124).  Joseph Blackwood was born circa 1785 and died January 26, 1837.  Children born to the union of Sarah & Joseph are as follows:  Lavina born November 11, 1807;  Joseph born August 13, 1809; Narcissa born May 29, 1811; William born October 8, 1813, and died December 2, 1891 in Shelby County, Missouri; James born December 30, 1815; Elias born March 10, 1818; Margaret M. born March 6, 1820; Mary born July 9, 1822; Robert born November 21, 1824; Sallie born February 9, 1827; John F. born April 8, 1829 and Lucinda born September 24, 1831.

c.  Robert born August 12, 1791 and died September 11, 1823.  He was married to Jane Passmore on August 23, 1815.  She was born February 12, 1790, and died September 12, 1868.  Children born to Robert & Jane are as follows:  Elizabeth born June 16, 1816 married James Linsey on November 14, 1836; George born February 7, 1817; Margaret born June 24, 1819 married James M. Liloard on January 27, 1865; George Passmore born November 9, 1820; Katherine born May 17, 1822 married James Howse on November 26, 1855; and Sarah Jane born January 11, 1824 married John Thomas on November 14, 1846.

 

d.  Benjamin born September 23, 1797 and died circa 1868 in Mercer County, Kentucky.  He married (1) Sarah Hall Denny on November 29, 1818 and she died June 03, 1835.  Children born to Benjamin and Sarah are as follows:  Jane born November 7, 1819, Elizabeth born January 17, 1821, Joseph H. born June 27, 1823, Marthey H. born September 2, 1825, Margaret McAfee born January 21, 1827, Robert McAfee born May 30, 1830 & William Hall born September 25, 1832.  He married (2) Elizabeth Logan Reeves on March 16, 1836 in Monroe County, Indiana.  She was born circa 1806 in Kentucky.  Children born to Benjamin and Elizabeth are as follows:  Benjamin F. born July 18, 1837 and died January 1, 1838; John R. born February 22, 1839 was married to Margaret E. Bungar and they had three daughters, Mary E., Harriet C., and Martha E.; Nathan M. born November 9, 1840 and died about 1901 and married Mary Ferguson; Cyrus Simpson born July 6, 1844; Isaac N. born July 26, 1846 married Francis Darling born December 29, 1847; Harriet Newel born March 1, 1849 married William Bungar; and 3 infant children born and died March 17, 1843.

 

William Neeld born about 1768 (although some researchers believe he may have been born as early as 1765), and died between July 30, 1823 when his will was dated and before August 22, 1823 when his will was entered into probate, Clark County, Indiana.  William was married to Jemima Merrifield on November 30, 1789 in Jefferson County, Kentucky with the marriage performed by William Hickman.  Elias Neeld was Bondsman.  Jemima was a daughter of Samuel Merrifield and wife Sarah "Sally" and was born circa 1771 in Pennsylvania, and died prior to the 1840 census.  Before emigrating to Indiana they had resided several years in Shelby County, Kentucky where he was listed in the History of Shelby County, page 250, as the first cabinetmaker in the county.  It is noted that in Clark County, Indiana he bought 166 acres in Clark's Grant #67 on June 9, 1808.  He was shown as a voter in Springville Township, Clark County, Indiana on April 3, 1809.  Children born to William and Jemima are as follows:  Larkin, Mary aka Polly, Elias, Green Hand, William, Sarah aka Sally, Elizabeth, Jane and Warren H.

a.  Larkin born circa 1790 and died by June 29, 1832 in Floyd County, Indiana (noted per Deed F-204) and most likely without issue.

 

b.  Mary "Polly" born January 01, 1793, Shelbyville, Kentucky  (Although another article states she was born January 9, 1793) and died June 17, 1836, Clark County, Indiana.  She married John Thompson Littell, Sr., a son of Absalom Littell & Mary Norris, on January 7, 1812 in Clark County, Indiana with the ceremony performed by William McCoy.  John T. was born June 18, 1790 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania and died February 11, 1848 in Washington County, Indiana.  Children born to the union of Mary "Polly" and John T. are as follows:  Milburn born January 13, 1813, died January 20, 1885 and he married (1) Sarah Ann Tilford (2) Rowena Martin (3) Sarah H. Carr & (4) Mary Rachel Thomas; Paulina aka Lina born March 12, 1814, died April 22, 1899 married Franklin E. Kelly; Elvira born November 24, 1815, died August 3, 1893 married Reuben Robertson (see Robertson line here); Maxwell Borden born January 28, 1817, died April 2, 1890 married Louisa Smith Bellows; Jemima born December 9, 1818, died July 1, 1834; Absalom IV born November 22, 1820, died February 25, 1847; Mary M. born September 33, 1822, died July 30, 1856 married Nelson Cunningham;  John Thompson Jr. born January 31, 1825, died February 9, 1881 married Elizabeth Sarah Simpson; Elizabeth Jane born March 15, 1827, died July 10, 1888 married Arthur P. Hodges; William Neeld born April 11, 1829, died about 1902 married Mary Elizabeth Johnson; Margaret Ann born October 26, 1831, died January 2, 1890 married James Alexander Baker; and Sarah Ellen born December 20, 1833 and died August 20, 1911 married Samuel C. McNeff.

     

c.  Elias born circa 1795, Kentucky and died circa 1862.  He married (1) Eliza Galloway on November 19, 1823 in Clark County, Indiana with ceremony performed by Absalom Littell.  She was born about 1802, and died before 1826 in Clark County, Indiana.  He married (2) Nancy Wells on August 16, 1826 in Clark County, Indiana with this ceremony performed also by A. (?) Littell.  Children born to the union of Elias & Nancy are as follows:  Warren born about 1827 and was married to Charlotte Kelly on January 18, 1853 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, ceremony performed by Henry Beharrell and to them were born James circa 1856, Elias circa 1860, Alice circa 1862 and Sarah circa 1866; Jemima born about 1830; James W. born about 1832 and he married Catherine C. Wells on June 29, 1854 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana by Silas W. Leonard, and they were the parents of Charles H. born circa 1859, James born circa 1863, Ida born circa 1866, Laura born circa 1869, Nora born circa 1871, Beatrice born circa 1875, Henry born circa 1878 and Frank Howell born 1881; Elizabeth born about 1841; Sarah born about 1844; and Caroline born about 1847.

     

d.  Green Hand born January 27, 1798 and died January 20, 1881 with burial in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.  He married (1) Hester Tobin on February 28,  1822 in Clark County, Indiana; (2) Ruth Bratton on February 26, 1850 with the ceremony performed by W. Terrell, Minister of the Gospel; and (3) Harriett Emma Cochran on July 23, 1862 in Floyd County, Indiana.  One known child, a daughter, America J. was born about 1824 to Green & Hester and she married John Williams on February 11, 1848 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana and they had Cordelia, Josephine and William; and to Green & Harriet were born Emma Gertrude about 1864, William Green on December 9, 1865 who died July 8, 1951 and he married Chloe Irene Sutherland, a daughter of Neely Sutherland and Caroline Lewis on April 20, 1888 in New Albany, Indiana and to them were born, Myrtle Irene, William Green, Chester Von, Clarence Ellsworth, Bessie Mae, Ervin Fillmore and Pearl Etta;  and Julia born about 1870.

e.  William born circa 1800 and was married to Elizabeth Wallam (also shown as Whallen) on September 9, 1825   in Clark County, Indiana with the ceremony performed by Absalom Littell.

 

f.   Sarah "Sally" born circa 1802 and married to John C. Redman on April 25, 1821, Clark County, Indiana.

 

g.  Elizabeth born circa 1803 and was married to Crawford Lewis on September 09, 1824, Clark County, Indiana by John T. Littell, M.G.

 

h.  Jane was born circa 1806.  (no further information at this time)

 

i.  Warren H. was born circa 1810 and died circa 1835 and was married to Catherine Adams on December 29, 1831, Floyd County, Indiana.
