Cecil Edward (Brownie) Brown, 2283 E. William St., a retired Decatur police officer, died at 12:55 p.m. yesterday in St. Mary's Hospital.

Mr. Brown, who had been in ill health for the past four years, had been a patient at the hospital since Sept. 24.

He had retired from the police department in 1955, after 24 years service, but worked for three years after that as a guard at the National Bank of Decatur.

Mr. Brown was a member and past president of Decatur Unit 39 of the Policemen's Benevolent & Protective Assn., the Illinois Police Assn. and the Decatur Police Credit Union.

He was born in Vernon, Ill., the son of Edward and Iva Poole Brown, and moved to Decatur in 1913 from Vernon.

His first marriage, in Vandalia on Dec. 10, 1913, was to Etta May Belcher, who died Oct. 6, 1936.

He was then married, on Aug. 30, 1941, in Union, Mo., to Dorothy White, who survives.

Also surviving is a son, Decatur Police Patrolman Elwood W. Brown; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Charlotte) Saloga, Decatur; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the J. J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Brown, 80, of Decatur, died 3:28 p.m. Friday (Nov. 10, 1995) in Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.

Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick Catholic Church. There will be no visitation. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Her body was donated to medical science. Memorials: St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Mrs. Brown was born Aug. 7, 1915 in Decatur, the daughter of William J. and Wilhelmina Thomalla White. She was a legal secretary for an attorney and the YWCA. She was also a court reporter. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She married Cecil E. Brown in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1961.

Surviving are her nephews, Thomas W. Mulligan and wife Cathy of Decatur; Richard S. Mulligan and wife Yvonne of Decatur; Michael D. Mulligan and wife Rose of Oreana; James E. Mulligan and wife Mary of Normal; Lawrence E. White of Chicago; nieces, Barbara Jo Mulcahy and husband Joe of Bloomington; Carol A. Zalinski and husband Chris of Chicago; eight great nieces and nephews and one great great niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and two sisters.
