Funeral at 9 Monday for Bernard D. Davern

 

Requiem high mass will be celebrated for Bernard D. "Slim" Davern, Sr., 62, of 1644 North Edward Street, in St. Thomas church at 9 a.m. tomorrow.  Burial will be in the Calvary cemetery.  The body was taken to the J. J. Moran & Sons funeral home where friends may call.

 

Mr. Davern, retired Wabash switchman, died at 8 a.m. yesterday in the Wabash Employees hospital where he had been for several years.

 

Mr. Davern was born in Crawfordsville, In., on May 9, 1885, the son of William and Catherine Davern.  He was married to Mary F. White in Decatur on Jan. 14, 1914.

 

He came to Decatur from Crawfordsville in 1913 and was with the Wabash railroad 33 years.  He retired April 1, 1947, because of ill health.  He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and of St. Thomas' Catholic church.

 

He leaves his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Johannes of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mrs. Frances Seman of Decatur, and Mrs. Alice Coble of Ames, Iowa; three sons, Bernard D., Jr., and John R. of Decatur and William H. of San Angelo, Texas; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Miller of Kansas City, Mo.
