OBITUARY
Belle Waughtel Patton, daughter of James and Nancy Kiel Waughtel was born in Jennings County, Indiana, July 15, 1859. She passed away January 11, 1950 at the age of 90 years, five months and 26 days. On October 22, 1884 she was united in marriage to Joseph Patton, also of Jennings County. To this union were born six children: Mamie, who died in infancy, Frank of Indianpolis; Chauncey of Columbus, Ind., Mrs. Estella Callon of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Edith Unrue and Mrs. Eva Ruth Green, of Scipio. The husband and father passed away January 27, 1932.
Mrs. Patton united with the Christian Union Church at Wilson Chapel February 18, 1888. Later her membership was moved to the Scipio Methodist Church of which she was a charter member when it was organized in 1914.
The deceased was a life long resident of this community. Besides her children there remain to mourn her passing, four grandchildren - Joseph Unrue, Dorothy Green, Mary Alice Patton and Floyd Callon, and two great-grandchildren, Teddy Joe and Judy Dell Unrue.
And so beside the silent sea I wait the muffled oar; No harm from Him can come to me On ocean or on shore. I know not where His islands lift Their fronded palms in air; I only know I cannot drift Beyond His love and care.
