Last Will and Testament
of Andrew Knott
County of Washington,
Commonwealth of Virginia
June 2, 1797


In the Name of God Amen, I Andrew Knott of the County of Washington, Commonwealth of Virg'a being at present though weak of body yet of perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and that it is appointed for all men once to die and after death to come to judgment Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following first and principally I recommend my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executor hereafter mentioned, and as for such worldly things as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and bequeath as follows, Viz ~ I will that all my just Debts and funeral charges are fully paid and satisfied I give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth the full benefits of all the Land now in my possession together with all my goods and chattles during her natural life, but in case that she contracts marriage she shall then relinquish all her right of Dower and the above benefits but until such marriage she shall hold and enjoy all as above under the inspection of my executor as to waste. I will also that so much of my property be sold as will pay Dr. Walkers claims of my Land and that my son Samuel and my stepson Thomas Sureat shall equally hold and enjoy said Lands forever after the decease of my present wife or second marriage as above when of age. I will also that all and every of my goods and chattles after the decease of my wife be sold and equally divided among all my daughters including by stepdaughter Sarah Edwards and that there shall be no sale or appraisement of my property during my wifes lifetime as above except that my executor should find said property [illegible word] then he is to act discretionary for the justice and benefit of my children, and lastly I do constitute ordain and appoint James Duffy sole executor to this my last Will and Testament revoking and making void all former Wills and executors by me heretofore made rectifying and confirming this and this only as my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this second day of June 1797.

At a Court held for Washington County the Aug't 1800, Ordered that James Dysart, James Kincannon, Samuel Meek & George Findley Do Settle and regulate the administration acc't of the personal Estate of Andrew Knott Dec'd whereof James Duffy is Executor and Report the Same to said Court Pursuant to said Order. PS ~ I am in hopes of proving (or disproving) the daughter Martha shown above, may possibly be one and same as the Patsy Knotts who married Frederick Waughtel and thus be my 3 great grandparents.
