Harmonas Alkire (who has also been shown as Harmonius, Monis, Maunus and other variants) was born circa 1730 in what is now Hampshire County, Virginia.  In, or about, 1757 he was married to Lydia Patton, a daughter of John Patton and his first wife Sarah Rogers.  There is speculation on her birth area; whether it is Lancaster County, Pennsylvania or Hampshire County, Virginia neither has been proven.  Harmonas died after May 29, 1800 the date his will was written and prior to July 1800 when it was probated in Bourbon County, Kentucky.  To the union of Harmonas & Lydia were born 12 children, and this is proven through his will, namely, as follows:

 

1.  Katherine/Catherine "Caty" Alkire was born circa 1757 died unmarried March 6, 1842 and buried at Christian Cemetery, Williamsport, Pickaway County, Ohio.

 

2.  Elizabeth Alkire was born circa 1758 and died circa 1824 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.  She was married to Adam Mitts and they were the parents of Samuel D., Jane, Sally, Jacob, Mary B. "Polly", Deborah, Dorothy, Adam, John, Cyrus, Elizabeth & Martha.

 

3.  John (Rev. John) Alkire was born circa 1759 and died October 1, 1836.  John was married to Susannah/Susan Nave (aka Neff) circa 1783.  Susan died July 12, 1832.  They are buried in the Blane Cemetery, Menard County, Illinois.  Rev. John & Susan were the parents of the following:

a.  Rachel Alkire was born December 2, 1783 and died November 23, 1825.  She was married to John Jackman Smith on January 26, 1805 in Ohio.  They were the parents of Hiram, William, Elijah & Elias.

 

b.  Leonard Alkire was born December 24, 1785 and died January 16, 1877.  He was married to Catherine Davis on October 14, 1811 in Ohio.  They were the parents of William, Silas, Samuel, Melissa Elizabeth, Milem A., David Arthur & Leonard.

 

c.  Sarah Alkire was born December 24, 1786 and died before November 4, 1845.  She was married to Joseph L. Powell on October 4, 1804 in Montgomery County, Kentucky.  They were the parents of Thirza, John Alkire, Noah, Alfred, Cynthia, Susanna, Ivy, Lucinda, Abel, Samuel, Dorothy "Dollie", Sarah "Sally", Elizabeth, Deborah & Joseph R.

 

d.  Silas Alkire was born September 23, 1788 and died September 4, 1858.  He married Rebecca Davis on June 23, 1808 in Ross County, Ohio.  They were the parents of Jared, Tabitha, Sarah, Susannah & Martha.

 

e.  Elizabeth Alkire was born June 16, 1791 and died June 8, 1855.  She was married to Samuel Powell on September 25, 1809 in Franklin/Madison County, Ohio.  They were the parents of Jesse, Mary "Polly", Lydia, Leonard, John L., Susannah, Celiann, George W., Joseph Doddridge & Sarah A.

 

f.   Emily Alkire was born circa 1793 and died November 13, 1871, and evidently never married.  Her will was dated August 25, 1871 and recorded January 2, 1872.

 

g.  John Nave Alkire was born April 19, 1796 and died August 19, 1877.  He was married to Jane Elizabeth "Jennie" Henderson on July 2, 1821 in Pickaway County, Ohio. They were the parents of Hiram H., David Henderson, Lucinda, Louisa, Riley Henderson, Emily, Silas, Elizabeth, George W., & Mary J.  Jennie died about 1850 and John Nave married Ellender Swank on January 9, 1856.

 

h.  Louisa Alkire was born circa 1798 and no further information on her at this time.

 

i.  Dorothy "Dollie" Alkire was born October 28, 1800 and died February 20, 1867, married Samuel Alkire on December 29, 1813 in Pickaway County, Ohio.  They were the parents of Michael, Margaret, Susanna, Jason, Peter, Arminda, John, Samuel, Dulcinea & Rebecca A.

 

j.  William Nave Alkire was born January 1, 1802 in (then) Bath County, Kentucky and died June 3, 1885 at Greenview, Illinois, married  Elizabeth Denton, a daughter or Robert Denton & Ruth Claypool, on October 3, 1820 in Madison County, Ohio.  William & Elizabeth were the parents of the following:

ja.  James Denton Alkire was born July 31, 1821 and died November 2, 1889, married Elvira H. Meeker on August 7, 1842 in Menard County, Illinois.  They were the parents of Sarah Elizabeth, Joseph Harold, Virgil, Harriet Isabel, William John & Leonard Riley.  After the death of Elvira he married Ruth Matthews on October 26, 1864 in Keokuk County, Iowa.   She was the widow of Elisha Scott and with whom she had 5 children, namely Barclay Matthews, Avesta Franklin, Ida Louise, Ada Lucinda & Elisha Challen.   James D.  & Ruth were the parents of Alvin Milo, James Arthur, Jane May "Jennie", Isaac Albert & Mary Adella.  After the death of James D. she married Nathan Bates on October 13, 1895.

 

jb.  John Denton Alkire was born August 8, 1824 and died October 14, 1907, married Sarah Wheeler on January 5, 1847.  Sarah died circa 1849.  On March 3, 1851 in Menard County, Illinois he was married to Sarah Nance with whom he had 12 children, namely, Chester A., Milum, Jennie, Katherine "Kate", Julia, Lizzie, Lydia, Isaac, Jacob F., Amanda, Mary F. "Mollie", & John T.

 

jc.  Isaac Denton Alkire was born December 2, 1826 and died January 25, 1913, married Louisa Elmore on March 31, 1850 in Menard County, Illinois.  They were the parents of William Elmore.

jd.  Rutha Alkire was born March 5, 1828 and died young.

 

je.  Rhoda Alkire was born September 30, 1830 and died January 21, 1915, married Francis Larkin Smith on December 3, 1846 in Menard County, Illinois and they were the parents of William Francis Smith.  After the death of Francis Larkin Smith, Rhoda married Alonzo Watts on March 23, 1854 in Menard County, Illinois.  Alonzo & Ruth were the parents of two sons, Henry and George.

 

jf.  Lydia J. Alkire was born October 3, 1834, married Daniel V. Meeker on August 1, 1850 in Menard County, Illinois.  They were the parents of Jane, Harriett J. "Hattie", Mary M., Louisa J., Emma, Charles & Homer.

 

jg.  Elizabeth Alkire was born June 14, 1836 in Illinois and died June 2, 1893 and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Sumner, Pierce County, Washington, married Levi Wilcox on November 24, 1853 in Menard County, Illinois. (see Wilcox line here) To this union was born 12 children (although the name of one remains unknown and another has not been proven), namely: Catherine Lydia "Kitty" aka Lydia Catherine, George Benjamin, Alice, Ellen, Jennie, Nancy (Ada Nancy?), Laura Z., Charles Edward, David (not proven), Odelia "Delia", Arthur Alkire.

 

jh.  William Denton Alkire was born august 22, 1838, died January 14, 1918, married Elizabeth Lane on March 2, 1860 in Mason County, Illinois, and they had the following children:  John William, Nancy Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Clara E., Anna M., Isaac Lincoln.

 

ji.  Tirzah Malena Alkire (on right) was born March 11, 1842, died August 14, 1919 married May 12, 1859 to Tidense Willis Lane.  To them were born the following:  Lillie M., Charles Sherman, Mary Eliza, Edna Alice, Arthur Jefferson, Stella Viola, Lucy Elvira.

k.  Mary Madaline Alkire was born circa 1803 and died April 18, 1874.  She married George Blane on December 28, 1826 in Sangamon County, Illinois.  They were the parents of Arminda J., Edward Lewis, Maria Ann, Amanda Ann & Mary Moore.

 

i.  George Nave Alkire was born circa 1808 and died February 27, 1888 in Lane County, Oregon.  He married to Julia A. (aka Jaily/Sally) Grant on January 27, 1830 in Sangamon County, Illinois.  They were the parents of John, Kate, Barton, George, William Engle, Ella Susan, Henry, George Strutt, Isaac, Robert & Aridene.

 

4.  William Alkire was born circa 1761 and died before May 1822 when his will was recorded in Deer Creek, Madison County, Ohio.  He married Elizabeth Moore circa 1780 and they were the parents of Mary Ann, Robert, John, Jacob, Isaac M., Abraham, Harmonas, Lydia, Margaret, John, Delilah Jane, Phoebe, William M., & Elizabeth.

 

5.  Adam Alkire was born circa 1767, date of death unknown.  He married Margaret Hornbeck on October 25, 1788 and they were the parents of Samuel, Dorothy Abigail "Dolly", Michael Harness, Elizabeth "Betsy", John Harrison, Sarah "Sally", Margaret "Peggy", Daniel V., Harmonas, Judith Belgest "Judy/Judah", Adam Justine & Mary.

 

6.  Deborah Alkire was born October 10, 1769 and died July 1850.  She was married to Jacob Trumbo on November 4, 1796 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.  They were the parents of Margaret, Andrew Alkire, Manassah/Manassett Alkire, John Alkire, George Alkire, Deborah, Lydia, Jacob Alkire & Elizabeth/Eliza.

 

7.  Margaret Alkire was born circa 1770 and no other information available at present.

 

8.  Michael Alkire was born January 6, 1772 and died February 12, 1843.  He married Dorothy "Dolly" Phebus on January 6, 1793 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.  They were the parents of John Michael, Nimrod R., Sarah, Nancy A., William M., Katherine, Ruhanna, James Madison, Alexander & Benjamin Franklin.

 

9.  Sarah Alkire was born circa 1774 and died June 12, 1843.  She married Simon Hornbeck on May 8, 1811.  They were the parents of John, Sarah & Cyrus.

 

10. Lydia Alkire was born circa 1776.  No other information available except her marriage to Solomon Hornbeck about 1796.

 

11. Harmonas Alkire was born February 18, 1778 and died February 21, 1857.  He married Jane Osborne on January 9, 1815 in Shelby County, Kentucky.  They were the parents of Jonathan, George, Elizabeth, Margaret, Rebecca, Hulda, William, Caleb W. O. & Felix B.
 

 
 

12. George Alkire was born circa 1780 and died July 21, 1868.  He was married to Catherine Rush about 1803 in Ross County, Ohio.  They were the parents of Mary, Rebecca, Barton W., Abner, Wesley J., Lydia, Gideon & Josiah.
