John Mayo Jr was baptized on 16 October 1597 at Farthinghoe Parish, Northamptonshire, England.1 He was the son of John Mayo and Katherine (?). John Mayo Jr married Tamesin Brike on 21 March 1618 at Reformed Church, Leiden, Holland; Jan Meyer of England, baizeworker, accompanied by Thomas Smeth, his acquaintance, betrothed March 21, 1618 to Timmosijn Breyck of England, accompanied by Susanna Breyck, her mother and Marytgen Duijck, her sister. While it is very likely that thi sis the marriage of Tamesin and John Mayo, it is not certain. Since John's good friend, William Brewster lived for a time in Leiden, it is certainly plausible.1 John Mayo Jr died on 3 May 1676 at Yarmouth, Barnstable Co, Massachusetts, at age 78.
John Mayo Jr arrived in New England in 1638. He settled in Barnstable where he was ordained 15 April 1640. He then removed to Eastham in 1646 where he ministered until 1654. Being "discouraged", he then moved to Boston and in November 1655 became the very first pastor of the "Old North Church".
