Hambright's parents: Gavin BLACK & Sarah HAMBRIGHT

askng just because Hambright's son Lafayette & William's son Edmond W. are BOTH living w/BARBER family in Leon Co. 1860.

Edmond was a Constable age 21 (=1839). He and Lafayette BLACK of TN age 35 (1825) are living with the BARBER family.

William BLACK of Tennessee

Tho the The Nashville Christian Advocate 1847-1849" reports that William BLACK was born (1802) in Lincoln County, Tennesse.

Lincoln Co. was not created until 1809 from Bedford County - which was established in 1807 from Rutherford County, Tennessee.

1802 June 1 - birth of William BLACK

1810 TN Rutherford Co. - (for Nashville and Jefferson only)

the only BLACK is Samuel P. BLACK. 2 3 4 1 x // 1 x x 1 x and Six Slaves

I am not saying that this is William's father.

1820 AL St Clair County

next door is Thomas' Son-in-law, Morris CHENAULT

William BLACK: 3 1 x x 1 x x x x x x x x // x x x x 1 x x x x x x x

males are Gavin, Jerome & Unknown; Granville and William

females are Delilah (Martha Caroline BLACK not yet born)

Next Door is Delilah's father: Thomas MURPHY age 50-60 (1771-1780)

William MURPHY and his family settled near Kennamer's Cove around 1830. (web link no longer works)

This 2002 information from the History of Jackson County, Alabama, [by John Robert KENNAMER (Decatur, AL), 1935, page 31] shows

William settled in Claysville (map). Additional Jackson County history page: jchistory.com

He had many Land Grants in the 1830s of Jackson Co., AL.

Williams birth, marriage and death dates are noted in the GENEALOGICAL ABSTRACTS FROM REPORTED DEATHS

THE NASHVILLE CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE 1847-1849: http://www.tngenweb.org/records/tn_wide/obits/nca/nca47-06.htm.

His death is also stated in Delilah's 1848 petition.

His Estate in 1848 (transcribed) has these and other land coordinates belonging to him. I have made maps, and the work continues.

Williams' Estate (aka Delilah's petition for Dower) Original Handwritten Document page1, page2, page3, page4 and page5.

William's Brother-in-law, Lewis MANNING settled there as well. Lewis was married to Delilah's sister, Mahala MURPHY (1807 TN - April 5, 1873). Lewis MANNING and Granville H. BLACK wereAdministrators of William's Estate, Marshall County, AL. (Signature Page)

In 1840, William was Deputy to Joel HIGGINS (Sheriff of Marshall Co., AL).

William was named Administrator of the Estate (transcribed) of his Father-In-Law Thomas MURPHY in Aug/Sept 1844, Marshall Co., AL

(B)

Delilah was seemingly the oldest child and daughter of Thomas MURPHY (801) and Martha as she is listed 1st in the Estate.

In Thomas' Estate document, however, if the children listed as deceased were listed last simply because they were deceased, it is possible that any of them could have been older than Delilah.

In Thomas' 1844 Estate, he names his children in order:

Delilah MURPHY Black, Matilda MURPHY Matheny, Mahala MURPHY Manning,, Mary MURPHY Chennault (dec'd) and son William MURPHY (dec'd). I have followed and information on these children.

Delilah's sons in the Civil War:

Granville H. Black D 26 Texas Cavalry. (Debray's Regiment. Davis' Mtd. Batt'n.) 1 Lieutenant Captain Confederate

Jerome N. Black A 13 Texas Cavalry. (Burnett's Regiment. 13 Texas Mtd. Vols.) Captain Captain Confederate
