Kenneth Carry Wash
Baker --- Kenneth Carry Wash, 74, of Baker, passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 1996, at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. He was born on Feb. 21, 1922, in Rural Carter County south of Ekalaka, the son of Daniel A. and Christ A. Ricketts Wash. He moved with his family to Baker where he attended schools. Ken attended barber school and graduated in 1939. He returned to Baker where he worked for Slim Niccum for several years before opening his own barbershop. Later Ken attended auctioneer school in Decatur, Ind. He returned to Baker and reopened his barbershop. He had many different trades along the way. For some time he operated the State Liquor Store, drove truck and trained race horses. He was a charter member of the Baker Toastmasters, and was appointed to the Horse Racing Commission. Ken's hobbies included working with horses, discussing current politics, oil painting, reading and music.
Survivors include three sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence "Duck" Wash, Dan Wash, and infant brother, Joseph; and a sister, Gertrude Brayton. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 26, at 11 A.M. in the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with Pastor Dave Gose officiating. Burial will be in the Bonnievale Cemetery in Baker.
