Generation One


1. Stephen1 HOPKINS was born circa 1579. He married Mary (--?--) before 1604. He married Elizabeth Fisher on 19 Feb 1617/18 at St. Mary Matfellon, Whitechapel, London. He died in 1644.
The first 5 generations from Stephen Hopkins have been well researched by the Mayflower Society. I've not duplicated that effort here. He immigrated in 1620. In 1620 Signer of the Mayflower Compact. Will written on 6 Jun 1644 Proved Aug. 20, 1644.

Mary (--?--) died before 9 May 1613 at Hursley, Hampshire, England.

2. Constance2 HOPKINS (Stephen1) was baptized on 11 May 1606 at Hursley, Hampshire, England. She married Nicholas Snow before 22 May 1627 at Plymouth, MA. She died in Oct 1677 at Eastham, MA, at age 71.

Nicholas SNOW died on 15 Nov 1676 at Eastham, MA. Occupation: at an unknown place. He immigrated in 1623. Will written on 14 Nov 1676 proved March 5 1676/7.

11. Mary3 SNOW (Constance2 Hopkins, Stephen1) was born circa 1630. She married Thomas Paine, son of Thomas Paine, before Apr 1651. She died on 28 Apr 1704 at Eastham, MA.

Thomas PAINE was born circa 1614 at England. He died on 16 Aug 1706 at Eastham, MA. Occupation: at an unknown place. He emigrated circa 1624. Will written on 12 May 1705 Proved Oct. 2, 1706 at Barnstable.

12. Dorcas4 PAINE (Mary3 Snow, Constance2 Hopkins, Stephen1) was born circa 1669 at probably Eastham, MA. She married Benjamin Vickery, son of George Vickery and Rebecca Phippeny/Phippen, circa 1689. She died on 30 Oct 1707 at Hull, MA.

Benjamin VICKERY was born circa 1664 at probably Hull, MA. He married Mary Coomes (--?--) on 7 Jul 1709 at Hull, MA. He died on 10 Jan 1718 at Hull, MA. Will written on 6 Jan 1717/18 proved March 4 1717/18, Suffolk County, MA, Probate File 3970.

15. Thomas5 VICKERY (Dorcas4 Paine, Mary3 Snow, Constance2 Hopkins, Stephen1) was born on 15 Nov 1695 at Hull, MA. He married Mary Bull, daughter of John Bull and Margaret Damon, on 8 Jul 1718. He died before 23 Nov 1767 at Merrimack, NH.

Mary BULL was born on 7 Dec 1697 at Hingham, MA. She died after 18 Feb 1754.

21. Phebe6 VICKERY (Thomas5, Dorcas4 Paine, Mary3 Snow, Constance2 Hopkins, Stephen1) was born on 6 May 1729 at Hull, MA. She married Samuel (Lieut.) Vose, son of Robert (Lieut.) Vose and Abigail Sumner, circa 1761. She died in 1801 at Bedford, NH.

Samuel (Lieut.) VOSE was born on 13 May 1730 at Milton, Norfolk Co., MA. He died on 7 Jun 1799 at Bedford, NH, at age 69. He was buried in 1799 at Bedford, NH, Old Burying Ground. Occupation: at an unknown place. Military service circa 1773 1775-8 member of the Committee of Safety, 1775 one of a committee of 3 to carry out the measures of Continental Congress which had been adopted by NH. Will written on 29 May 1799.

23. Robert (Rev.)7 VOSE (Phebe6 Vickery, Thomas5, Dorcas4 Paine, Mary3 Snow, Constance2 Hopkins, Stephen1) was born on 3 Nov 1762 at Bedford, NH. He married Mehitable Boice, daughter of John Boice and Mehitable Sheafe, on 30 Dec 1785 Goffstown, NH. He died on 12 Dec 1819 at Berlin, VT, at age 57. He was buried in 1819 at East View Cemetery, Berlin, near airport, VT see photo.
Occupation: Methodist Minister. Military service in 1780 Private in Capt. Thomas Newcomb's company, Col. Ebenezer Thayer's regiment, which went to RI. Census 1790 NH, Hillsborough County, Dearing, 1male 16+, 2 males <16, 3 females. Census 1810 VT, Orange County, Berlin, 1 male<10, 2 males16-25, 1 male45+, 1 female<10, 2 females10-15, 1 female 16-25, 1 female45+. Estate Administration on 22 Dec 1819 Wife Mehitable appointed administratrix, inventory of estate $1,608.83 of which $1,133 was 100 acre farm in Lot #5, 4th range. Dower was 22 acres and house. Estate Sale on 11 Dec 1820 at Berlin, VT. Estate Account on 1 Jan 1822 Estate distributed to Robert Vose $35.37, to Samuel Vose $35.37, to Orin Vose $35.37, to Polly Vose $17.69, to Priscilla Vose $17.69 and to Nancy Vose $1769. Previously distributed by their father during his lifetime was $100 to John Vose, $25 to Phebe Grant, $25 to Mehitabel Hillery and $40 to Hannah Finkham.

Mehitable BOICE was born on 17 Aug 1764 at Boston. She died on 9 Feb 1851 at Barre, Vt, at age 86. She was buried in 1851 at East View Cemetery, airport, Berlin, VT see photo. Census 1830 VT, Washington County, Berlin, 1 male20-30, 1 female20-30, 1 female 40-50, 1 female 60-70. Census 1850 VT, Washington County, Barre, age 86, living in household of daughter Priscilla Allen.
