1. Joseph (Emigrant)¹ Blackwell was born in England. He lived at "The Poplars", "Walnut Lodge", Northumberland. He was educated at Trinity College, Oxford. He emigrated in 1636 to Virginia.

He was Vestryman & justice, member of House of Burgesses.

3. Samuel (Hon.)³ Blackwell (Samuel², Joseph¹) was born on 19 Jan 1710/11 at Of "Walnut Lodge" Northumberland Co., VA. He married Elizabeth Steptoe, daughter of John Steptoe and (--?--) Elizabeth. He died on 17 Oct 1762 at age 51. He was buried at St. Stephens Parish, of "Walnut Lodge", Northumberland.
He was Vestryman, Burgess, Assembly. Military service Captain in Militia. Will on 16 Oct 1761.

4. William (Col.)³ Blackwell (Samuel², Joseph¹) was born on 25 Apr 1713 at St. Stevens Parish, Northumberland. He married Elizabeth Crump, daughter of Joseph Crump, in 1734. He died on 10 Aug 1772 at Fauquier at age 59.
Descendents known as "white" Blackwells (blond). He was High Sheriff of Fauquier. Will on 20 Sep 1772.

•     21  iii.   Samuel Blackwell was born circa 1736. He married Mary Bragg on 27 Dec 1788 Fairfax, Fauquier. He died in 1782.


•     22  iv.   William (Capt.) Blackwell was born circa 1738. He married Celia Helm, daughter of Lynaugh Helm and Hester Edrington, on 6 Apr 1778. He died before 1786 at Fauquier.  Will on 25 Sep 1786.


• +  23  v.   Susanna Blackwell was born in 1739. She married John (Col.) Green, son of Robert Green and Eleanor Dunn, in 1756.


• +  24  vi.   Elizabeth Blackwell was born circa 1741. She married William (Capt.) Edmonds, son of William Edmonds and Judith Sydnor, on 16 Mar 1764 Fairfax, Fauquier.


• +  25  vii.   Thomas (Capt.) Blackwell was born circa 1741. He married Judith Grant, daughter of William Grant, on 26 Sep 1781 Fairfax, Fauquier.


•     26  viii.   Nancy Blackwell was born circa 1743.  Not in father's will.


•     27  ix.   Sarah Blackwell was born circa 1745. She married John Roberts on 19 Nov 1779 Fauquier. She died at KY.


•     28  x.   Hannah Blackwell was born circa 1747. She died in 1795.  Never married.


•     29  xi.   Lucy Blackwell was born circa 1750. She married William (Capt.) Pickett, son of William Pickett and Elizabeth Cooke, in 1769. She married William Green, son of Robert Green and Patty Ball, on 13 May 1775 Fairfax, Fauquier.


• +  30  xii.   Joseph (Col.) Blackwell was born circa 1755 at of Elk Run. He married Ann Grayson Gibson, daughter of John (Col.) Gibson and Mary Brent, on 14 Aug 1787 Fairfax, Fauquier. He married Mary Waddy Brent, daughter of William (Capt.) Brent and Hannah Neale, on 25 Oct 1802 Fauquier.

5. Joseph (Col.)³ Blackwell Sr. (Samuel², Joseph¹) was born on 9 Jul 1715 at Northumberland Co., VA. He married Lucy Steptoe, daughter of John Steptoe and (--?--) Elizabeth, in Jan 1744/45 Northumberland Co., VA. He died on 30 May 1787 at Fauquier at age 71.

20. John⁴ Blackwell (William³, Samuel², Joseph¹) was born circa 1735. He married Ann Blackwell, daughter of Samuel (Hon.) Blackwell and Elizabeth Steptoe, in 1765. He married Judith Churchill, daughter of Armistead Churchill and Hannah Harrison, in 1777. He was Sheriff, Fauquier.

•     70  iv.   Robert Green was born circa 1759. He married Frances Edmunds, daughter of William (Capt.) Edmonds and Elizabeth Blackwell, on 15 Aug 1787 Fauquier. He died in 1791.


•     71  v.   Duff Green was born circa 1760. He died in Feb 1778 at Valley Forge duel.  Never married.


•     72  vi.   Moses (Gen.) Green was born circa 1761. He married Fanny Richards.


•     73  vii.   Elizabeth Green was born circa 1762. She married John Hooe.

24. Elizabeth⁴ Blackwell (William³, Samuel², Joseph¹) was born circa 1741. She married William (Capt.) Edmonds, son of William Edmonds and Judith Sydnor, on 16 Mar 1764 Fairfax, Fauquier. She died on 28 Feb 1817 at Fauquier. She was buried at Edmonds/Blackwell Cemetery, Warrenton, remains, but monument at Warrenton Cemetery also. Not in father's will.

•     74  i.   William⁵ Edmunds was born in 1765. He married Hester Foote in 1799. He died in 1822.


•     75  ii.   Frances Edmunds was born in 1766. She married Robert Green, son of John (Col.) Green and Susanna Blackwell, on 15 Aug 1787 Fauquier.


•     76  iii.   Sarah Edmunds was born in 1767. She died in 1818.


•     77  iv.   Elias Edmunds was born in 1768 at of "Mt. Airy." He married Helen Edmonds in 1799. He married Sarah Batella Fitzhugh in 1807. He died in 1811.


•     78  v.   Mary "Polly" Edmunds was born on 17 Apr 1770. She married William Horner on 19 Oct 1790 Fauquier. She died on 16 Jun 1837 at Warrenton at age 67. She was buried at Warrenton Cemetery.


•     79  vi.   Elizabeth Edmunds was born in 1771. She married James (Dr.) Westwood Wallace on 6 Aug 1794 Fauquier.


•     80  vii.   John Edmunds was born in 1775.  He was US Congressman.


•     81  viii.   Lucy Edmunds was born in 1777. She married Robert Green. She died in 1855.


•     82  ix.   James Edmunds was born in 1779. He married Nancy E. "Ann" Robinson. He died after 1822.


•     83  x.   Catherine Edmunds was born in 1781. She married George Houston Payne on 23 Nov 1809. She died in 1836 at Fauquier. She was buried at Edmonds-Blackwell Cemetery, Warrenton.


• +  84  xi.   Judith Lee Edmunds was born in 1783. She married Moore Fauntleroy Carter, son of Landon Carter and Judith Fauntleroy.

25. Thomas (Capt.)⁴ Blackwell (William³, Samuel², Joseph¹) was born circa 1741. He married Judith Grant, daughter of William Grant, on 26 Sep 1781 Fairfax, Fauquier. He died on 28 Apr 1831 at Culpeper.
Military service Capt. of 10th VA Reg. Moved to Union Co., KY, early 1800's. Not in father's will.
Children of Thomas (Capt.)⁴ Blackwell and Judith Grant were as follows:

•     85  i.   Grant⁵ Blackwell was born in 1782 at Morgansfield, KY. He married Lucy Latham in 1824. He died on 7 Jan 1847.  Military service in 1812 served in War of 1812, Battle of Thames.


•     86  ii.   Sophia Blackwell was born in 1785.


•     87  iii.   Judy Blackwell was born in 1791.


•     88  iv.   Thomas Blackwell was born in 1797. He married Mary Ann Williams on 27 Sep 1827.


•     89  v.   Betsy Blackwell was born in 1799.

30. Joseph (Col.)⁴ Blackwell (William³, Samuel², Joseph¹) was born circa 1755 at of Elk Run. He married Ann Grayson Gibson, daughter of John (Col.) 39. Judith⁴ Blackwell (Joseph³, Samuel², Joseph¹) was born on 10 Aug 1759 at Fauquier. She married Thomas (Capt.) Randolph Keith, son of James (Rev.) Keith and Mary Isham Randolph, on 25 May 1775 Fauquier County, VA Sec. V, Ch 33. She died on 17 Apr 1857 at Warrenton at age 97.

84. Judith Lee⁵ Edmunds (Elizabeth⁴ Blackwell, William³, Samuel², Joseph¹) was born in 1783. She married Moore Fauntleroy Carter, son of Landon Carter and Judith Fauntleroy. She died in 1817.

She married James Blackwell, son of Joseph (Major) Blackwell Jr. and Ann (Eustace) Hull, on 12 May 1831 Fauquier. She died on 7 Apr 1884 at Fauquier at age 75. She was buried at Blackwell Cemetery, "The Meadows", Bethel, Warrenton, VA.

•     273  iii.   Judith Ann Blackwell was born on 22 Jan 1836.


•     274  iv.   Elizabeth Carter Blackwell was born on 3 Mar 1837. She married Albert (Major) Gallatin Smith, son of William (Col.) Rowley Smith and Lucy Steptoe Blackwell, on 25 Nov 1858 Not in Gott. (see # 216).


•     275  v.   Agnes Eustace Blackwell was born on 5 Nov 1840. She married Isaac Eustace Smith, son of William (Col.) Rowley Smith and Lucy Steptoe Blackwell, on 10 Jan 1856. She married Washington Tazewell Capps in 1877. 


•     276  vi.   Helen R. Blackwell was born on 30 Jul 1843..


•     277  vii.   Lucy Steptoe Blackwell was born on 9 Jul 1845. She married Alexander Fontaine Rose on 16 Jul 1879 "The Meadows" Fauquier. (see # 219).

Rowley Smith and Lucy Steptoe Blackwell, on 25 Nov 1858 Not in Gott. She died on 16 Jun 1925 at age 88. She was buried at Alton Cemetery, Bethel, Warrenton, VA.

He married Mary Lapsley Keith, daughter of Julian Chilton Keith and Mary Alberta Lapsley, on 21 Jul 1917 "Donnottar", Fauquier Co, VA. He died on 16 Jan 1966 at Fauquier at age 81. He was buried at Warrenton Cemetery, Warrenton, VA.

•     380  iv.   Mary Keith Rose was born on 15 Feb 1892. She died on 10 Mar 1960 at age 68. She was buried at Warrenton Cemetery, Warrenton, VA.
