WAPASHA IV
|
(???? - ????) After Wapasha III's death, the old chiefs were turned out of office. But in 1878 his son, Hdakinyan was elected to a leadership position from his reservation district. Napoleon was an Episcopalian like his father, and became a "lay reader" at the Church of St. Cornelia, Birch Coulee. He remained there until the late 1890's when he returned to the Santee Reservation. He married Natalie Graham [Mazakashuhewin], daughter of Alexander and Mary Graham. They had about a dozen children, one of whom was Henry Benjamin [aka Spread Horns, Hebo] born on 18 Sep 1884 who would become the next heriditary Chief Wabasha. On January 27, 1925 he broke his hip in a wagon turnover and later died. He is buried at the Santee Reservation at the old Espiscopal Church cemetery on Hobo Creek near his father.
