WASHINGTON COUNTY, GEORGIA, NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS, Volume, I 1852-1866, page 20, compiled by Tad Evans, under A LIST OF LETTERS, stated "Remaining in the Post Office at Sandersville, Ga., on the 1st day of July, and if not taken out by the 1st day of October next, will be sent to the Gereral Post Office as dead letters: ABEL MASSEY, being the name of one of those listed."

THE CENTRAL GEORGIAN, in its edition of May 4, 1859, taken from WASHINGTON COUNTY, GEORGIA, NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS, 1852-1866, page 203, compiled by Tad Evans, under LEGAL NOTICES, STATED: "Washington County: James J. Massey notifies creditors of ABEL MASSEY, deceased, to file claims.

THE CENTRAL GEORGIAN, in its edition of July 6, 1859, taken from WASHINGTON COUNTY, GEORGIA, NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS, 1852-1866, Volume I, page 207, compiled by Tad Evans, under DIED stated: "In Washington County, on the 18th of April, ABEL MASSEY, in the 81st year of his age, and on the 10th of June following, ELIZABETH MASSEY, his wife, in the 76th year of her age. Together they emigrated from North Carlina in 1815, and settled in Washington County.

THE CENTRAL GEORGIAN, in its edition of July 6, 1859, taken from WASHINGTON COUNTY, GEORGIA, NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS, 1852-1866, Volume I, page 207, compiled by Tad Evans, under LEGAL NOTICES, stated:
"Washington County: James J. Massey files to sell property of ABEL MASSEY, deceased."

NOTE: James J. Massey advertised an Executor's sale of 210 acres of land, the home place of ABEL MASSEY, adjacent to S. Robison, D. Cason, W. Turner. The home place was located nine (9) miles from Sandersville on the road leading to Rutherford's Bride on Buffalo Creek. The Executor's sale was for the benefit of ABEL MASSEY'S heirs. /s/ James J. Massey.

An undated letter to the Southern Progress, published August 4, 1983, from Theron L. Smith, 3529 Wooten Drive, Fort Worth Texas said ABEL MASSEY, BARACHIAS MASSEY and SAMPSON MASSEY were brothers and came from Franklin County, North Carolina into Washington County, Georgia about 1820.
