I am seeking information on my paternal grandfather, Samuel Houston FERRIS (or Ferriss). He may have been from Ferris, Texas. In the late 1800's, he moved to Hart County, KY, with his father who settled near Priceville and ran a blacksmith shop. Sam married Ida Mae CHILDRESS around 1910. She was born about 1895. They had three sons, Woodrow, William Herman "Lonzo", and Russell Houston "Rusty" Ferris (my father). The family moved from Priceville to nearby Cub Run. It is believed that both Sam and his wife were deceased by 1920. If you have any information on Sam or Ida Mae, please contact: Richard Farris
I am looking for information on my paternal grandfather, Samuel Houston Ferriss (possibly Ferris). We believe he came from Texas, possibly the town of Ferris, in the late 1800's. He lived in Hart County, KY, in the early 1900's. Probably around 1912, he married Ida Mae Childress of Hart County, and they lived in and around Priceville. Samuel Houston Ferriss worked as a blacksmith. He and Ida Mae had three sons, Woodrow Ferriss, William Herman "Lonzo" Ferriss and Russell Houston Ferriss (later Farris, my dad). We believe Samuel Houston Ferriss died just before 1920. In the 1920 Census, Ida Mae and her three boys were living with her brother, Hiram Childress, in Hart County. We also believe that Ida died just after 1920 and that the three boys were farmed out to relatives or to whoever would take them in. I would appreciate any information on Samuel Houston Ferris(s). I am searching for information on Levi [Kelly - nickname according to his wife] Farris/Fearis/Ferris/Fearris to include his parents, siblings, relation to Champion Farris, relation to Davidson Farris and the name of his unknown daughter.  I would also be interested in information on Margaret Nunley Farris.  Levi was born between 1790 and 1800 if the census records of 1830 were correct in Virginia or North Carolina.  Another record shows a Levi's birth in1785.  Levi served in Company M [Captain James Tate's Company from Warren County] of Colonel Stephen Copeland’s Regiment of General Thomas Johnston's Brigade of the West Tennessee Militia Infantry during the lesser Creek Indian War which is often considered by historians as part of the War of 1812.  Levi was discharged as a Sergeant. Levi married Margaret Nunley in Warren County on 1 February 1811 and they were married there by Jonathan Farris, Justice of the Peace.  He died on 1 Sept. 1832 in McNairy County TN and is buried in McNairy County TN.  Levi and Margaret had 7 children to include: Overton Louis, Commadore, Carroll, Mahala [Mahalia], Nisa, Salina and an unnamed daughter.
My records of Levi Farris are from the McNairy County TN Census, US Census, Military Records, Bounty Land Records filed by Margaret Nunley Farris, Marriage Records for Warren County TN, Cemetery records, burial location and tombstone information.  Again, my Farris line runs from my Father, O. W. Farris, to Odus Farris, to Elihu Jackson Farris to Overton Louis Farris to Levi [Kelley-nickname] Farris.Wendell Farris
