She married (2) Barney Joseph 30 December 1930 in Borough of Brooklyn, New York38, son of Anna E.. He was born 07 March 1890 in Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY, and died 03 January 1979 in Glendora, CA.
According to the family oral tradition, Agnes (Deidrich) Huch, Hildegard's maternal grandmother, was the midwife at her birth.
Hildegard was known as "Hilda". She was baptised in St. Joseph's RC Church of Yorkville, 404 E. 87th Street, New York City, NY 10128 by Rev. J.B. Weber on 11 December 1898. The sponsor was her grandmother, Agnes (Deidrich) Huch. The 2 June 1900 Federal Census shows Hilda, age 1, living with her parents at 347 Grove Street, Brooklyn (Kings Co.) NY.
She trained as a nurse at Bethany Deacon Hospital. At age 20, Hilda was living with her parents at 119 Schley Street in Ridgewood, Queens Co., NY.
From the Ridgewood Times, dated 17 January 1919: HEWITT, JOHN S. Marriage License: John S. Hewitt, 20, 865 Fresh Pond Road, Ridgewood and Hildegard E. Wallner, 119 Schley Street (65 Place) Glendale Hilda married John Sylvester Hewitt on 6 October 1919, according to Marriages Reported in 1919, Borough of Manhattan, Certificate #26559. They had one child, a daughter, Agnes Beatrice. Hildegard Elizabeth and John S. Hewitt divorced on 30 December 1930.
Hilda met her second husband, Barney Joseph, while she was nursing his wife Ann (Neuweiler), who died of cancer. She and Barney Joseph married on 30 December 1930, per Marriages Reported in 1930/31, Borough of Brooklyn, NY Certificate #485. There were no children of this marriage.
Hildegard Elizabeth (Wallner) Joseph died on 30 January 1986 in Glendora, CA. The White Funeral Home, Foothill Blvd, Azuza, CA handled the arrangements, and the memorial service was held at the Chapel of St. Dorothy, Valley Center, Glendora, CA. She is buried with her husband Barney Joseph in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin PA. Barney Joseph: Barney's first wife, Ann Neuweiler, died of cancer. He met his second wife, Hildegard (Wallner) Hewitt while she was nursing his wife, Ann. He worked for Bauer & Stiles as an apprentice in carpentry. He was 13 years old when his father died. He took his brothers to search for scrap metal for junk resale. He aquired wealth as a builder later in his own right and lost it in 1931-32 protecting a self-held second mortgage. His nephews are Alfred Neuweiler and Mickey Ryan (sister's son). Barney was a member of Masonic Lodge, Ridgewood NY, initiated into Lodge #64 on 22 June 1923, passed 9 November 1923, raised 14 December 1923 and was a charter member of Masonic Granite Lodge #1011 FI&AM 5903 Summerfield Street. He resided at 481 Archer Street, Freeport, Long Island, Nassau Co., NY with his mother Ann E. and his first wife, Ann (Neuweiler) Joseph. After their deaths and his second marriage to Hildegard (Wallner) Hewitt, he continued to live at this residence. With the brother of Hildegard, Albert J. Wallner, Barney Joseph was employed by Walsh Driscoll Construction Company and George F. Driscoll Co. in the US to build Army bases in Port au Prince, Trinidad, British West Indies. They sailed for Trinidad on the S.S. Evangline, arriving 30 July 1941. In Trinidad they were with the American Base Forces, Fort Read American Volunteer Corps. Barney Joseph and Albert J. Wallner returned to the States 6 October 1942.
Barney Joseph died in the Oakview Nursing Home in Glendora, CA. He is buried in the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, PA. Child of Hildegard Wallner and John Hewitt is:
