The Salee Rose set sail from the Downes to Boston. The Salee Rose departed the Downs early in the morning of September 5, 1683, guided out of the King's Channel by the Grand Pilot, (sop) before turning the ship over to her captain. John Knepp, ordered there by the King through Sr. Richard Haddock and Sr. John Narbrough, Knights. He brought articles of agreement with him that were refused by the crew, saying that their agreement was with Captain Phips and not with the King. They were later persuaded by Phips to sign. This was the crew: "An Account of all the Mens Names that now Belong to his Majesties ship the Rose: which have signed-to the Articles: made between his sacred Majestie and then for the proceeding on a voyage to ye Bahama shoalds."
