Harold E. Race
Abbot Resident Long Prominent in Life of Community
Abbot, April 22, 1936     Harold E. Race, 64, life-long resident and one of the leading citizens of the town, died at his home early this morning after an illness of about one week.  After he married Jennie E Moulton, he bought the David Race place, near Cole's Corner, and farmed there very successfully until 1920, when he purchased the present home in Abbot village. After coming to the village, he lumbered to some extent, did road work, and had served as road commissioner, and on the board of selectmen. He took an active part in all town affaairs, was particularly interested in  Memorial day observances and one of the first to promote any good cause.  He had been a member of Abbot Grange since 1900 and held the silver certificate for 25 years membership. He was treasurer of the grange when he died and had been for more than 25 years. He leaves, besides his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Eugene Stone of Abbot, and Mrs. Albert Lovejoy of Jackman; one son, Cecil Race of Jackson Heights, Brooklyn,N.Y. also three granddaughters, Opal and Ellen Stone of Abbot and Kathleen Lovejoy of Jackman; his brother, W G Race of Hallowell, and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Race, of Guilford.  Funeral services will be at the home Friday at 2o'clock. Rev. G H. Welch of the Guilford Universalist church will officiate. Burial will be in Abbot.
Mr. and Mrs. Carol Brown of East Orange, Mass called here by the serious illness of Mr. Race, Mrs. Brown's cousin, arrived Tuesday night.


Mrs. Jennie E. Race
Abbot, April 28,1950 Mrs. Jennie E Race, 83, died at her home here Thursday after a long illness.
She was born in Abbot, daughter of David and Georgianna (Fogg ) Moulton, Jan 6, 1867, and was a life-long resident of this town. Her husband, Harold E Race, died 14 years ago.  Mrs. Race was a member of the Abbot Congregational church, and its auxilliary the Willing Workers. A national, state, county and local granger, she served as secretary of Abbot Grange for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E.E. Stone and Mrs. Albert J Lovejoy, both  of Abbot; and one son, Cecil Race of Mineola, N.Y.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  Services will be held at the residence, Saturday at 2 p.m.,the Rev. Robert Mayhew of Greenville officiating. Burial will be in the new cemetery at Abbot.


Ruby C. Stone
Ruby C. Stone, 90, died July 29,1980, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home.  She was born June 12,1890, the  daughter of Harold and Jennie (Moulton) Race.  Mrs. Stone worked at the Abbot Post Office and was postmistress for a short time. She was a member of the Valley Grange; Pythian sisters; Willing Workers; and the Guilford Senior Citizens club.  She served as town treasurer for several years and also served as clerkfor the Abbot Conngregational church for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Opal Bennett, and Ellen Merrill, both ofAbbot; a brother, Cecil Race of Lighthouse Point, Fla; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.Funeral services were held Saturdy afternoon in the Abbot Congregational Church. Burial was in Abbot Village Cemetery.


Eugene E Stone
Abbot, Dec 30 , 1951   Eugene Elmer Stone, 66,died at his home here late Saturday night after a week's illness. He was born in Atkinson, Jan 23,1885, son of Thomas and Delia (Weeks )Stone. He had lived in this section practically all his life, and for the past 44 years in Abbot.  He was a member of Good Cheer lodge, I.O.O.F.,in Guilford, and the Abbot grange.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruby Race; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Bennett of Abbot and Miss Ellen Stone of Troy, N.Y. a brother, Frank Stone of Milo; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Conners of Gorham and Mrs. Marilla Libby of Wiscasset; and two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be conducted at Harvey's funeral home in Guilford, Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Gard Rowe, pastor of the Monson and Abbot churches, officiating. Burial will be in the new cemetery here in the spring.


Beulah E. Lovejoy
Abbot   Beulah E Lovejoy, 77, died March 1, 1978, in Troy, N. Y.  She was born in Abbot June 10,1901, the daughter of Harold and Jennie ( Moulton ) Race. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and of the Willing Workers in Abbot. She is survived by her husband, Albert M. Lovejoy of Abbot: one son, Richard of Oregon : one daughter, Mrs. Russell ( Kay ) Martel of Cahoes, N.Y., one sister, Ruby Stone of Abbot; one brother, Cecil Race of Lighthouse Point, Fla.: six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 P.M. at the Neal Funeral Home in Guilford, with spring burial in the Abbot Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 P.M.


Albert M. Lovejoy
Milo    Albert M Lovejoy, 83, died at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital Oct 15, 1984. He was born in Medford, Oct. 15, 1900  son of Elbridge and Mabel (Preston ) Lovejoy.  He is survived by one son, Richard Lovejoy of Rumford; a daughter, Kathleen Martell of New York: three brothers, Robert of Kittery, Arthur of Yarmouth, Mass. and Theodore of Brownville : five sisters, Evelyn Daggett of East Hartford, Conn., Elsie Newman of Allenwood,N.J., Olive French of Levant, Alice Ogden and Dorothy Stanchfield, both of Milo,several grandchildren , several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, this morningat 10. Burial will be in Abbot Village Cemetery.


Cecil R. Race
Cecil R Race died Thursday morning, Jan. 1,1987, at his home at 100 Dogwood Trail,Tryon, S.C.  He was the son of the late Harold and Jennie Moulton Race. He was eighty. He and his wife Margaret moved here from Lighthouse Point, Fla. in September 1982. Mrs. Race died June 2, 1986.  A native of Abbot, Maine, he graduated an E.E.  from the University of Maine and was employed for 28 years by the Arma division of Ambac Inndustries, Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. He was a life member and Past Commander of the U.S. Power Squadron of the Deerfield-Pompano Beach, Fla. He was a member of the National Rifle Assoc. and a life member of the Polk county Gun Club He was a member of the Tryon Country Club. . He was a retired electrical engineer.  He is survived by several nieces and nephews.  Memorial services were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross Chapel with the Rev. James O Reynolds officiating. Burial of ashes was held in the Church Memorial Gardens.  McFarland Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Polk County, P.O. Box 722,Tryon, N.C. 28782
