Madison Co. Mystery Messingers

Help!!! Can anyone identify the ancestry of these Messinger families from Madison Co., New York?

1. Descendants of Osbert E. Messenger
Generation No. 1
1.  OSBERT E.1 MESSENGER was born 1822, of Messenger's Bay, Madison Co., New York1, and died 1884.  He married SARAH G. HUYCK June 1850 in Madison Co., New York2.
Oyster suppers were common at The Messenger House in Osbert's proprietorship along with holiday parties and dances.  He expanded the hotel in the 1870's by adding the Lewis Point resort.  The Madison County Times of July 23, 1876 said "The present proprietor, O. E. Messeger..............doing everything in his power to make it pleasant for his guests and, what is quite important in these times makes light charges.  Mr. Messenger has built a convenient little cottage (Rural Retreat) on the point and, having fishing tackle and good boats, can supply the most fastidious with everthing needful.  Those wishing to spend a few days rusticating cannot do better than to go to a Rural Retreat at Lewis Point."  (Place Names of Madison County)  An avid fisherman, he served his own fish in the hotel4
Burial: Messenger's Bay Cemetary, Messenger's Bay, Madison Co., New York3
Grandson of George Messenger4

Is the George below his father? or is he the grandson Osbert?

2. Descendants of George Messenger
Generation No. 1
1.  GEORGE1 MESSENGER, of town of Lenox, Madison Co., New York2.
Messenger House remained in family ownership until it's closing in 1910.  Sons George, E. O. , and grandson Osbert managed the hotel through the nineteenth century.  Place of many parties and dances, picnics and the like.  Most customers were Oneida Lake sportsmen.  Grapevine were brought from Oneida Creek in 1814, poplars from Massachusetts in 1822.  A long quaint looking building with glass windows opening like doors on a porch supported by ivy covered pillars.  Maple trees bordered the avenue in front and evergreens shaded the rear.  The communities central landmark for many years, it was destroyed by fire shortly after it's closing.  Across the street was a store and post office.  The year round population was about 40 but the summer population swelled.   Several hamlet residents were employed by the hotel to pick up tourists using horse and buggy at the Canastota railroad station.  (Madison County Place Names)  1814, purchased 144 acres on Oneida Lake, New York - later called Messenger's Bay5
1816, built hotel at Messenger's Bay, Madison Co., N.Y.3 1819, Lenox juror until 18264 1832, on Coroner's jury4

The above family (the first Edwin D who appears to be son of the George Messinger above), lived next door to the James S. Messinger family in Peterboro yet I have not found a connection between the two families as yet.  Both families had a history of physicians and descendants in Chicago. Can anyone help?

There were also several Messingers in Deruyter,
Madison Co., New York.
What is their connection to those in Peterboro and Messingers Bay?

Mr. James H. Messenger
Stillwater NY

My dear Sir -
Yours addressed to me at Chautauqua reached me here today-
There were two different families of Messinger and Messengers - living in Peterboro NY when my father was a boy. Our family never changed the e to an i as you state.
I have the genealogy and it was compiled by the Boston branch of the family and all the names spell the name with an i.
You were misinformed where any one told you that my grandfather and great uncle changed it - they certainly never did. Our Great grandfather who died in the early part of the 19th century has it spelled with an i on his tombstone.
You will find two copies of the genealogy in the library of the Educational Bldg in Albany - the body of each is practically the same and the name is spelled with an i in both.
We are descended from Sir Henry Messinger who settled in Boston prior to 1640. One of the family has a portrait in Fanueil Hall Boston.
The sons of the family I spoke of as living in Peterboro when to Chi (?) and manufactured paper bags when I was a girl and my father who was a miller bought of them - they sometime after that changed the spelling to the same way I spell it.
There are two Rev. Messengers in the Christian Ch. One a missionary on the foreign field. They came from Ohio and there are still people in Ohio - but I can't name the towns who spell the name with an e.
I do not find the name Brousou in my copy of the genealogy - I do not think that the e family is at all related to the i family. There is also an e family in Baraboo Wisc.
The Messinger genealogy is very incomplete after 1850 but it seems to have the family pretty well recorded to that time.

Very Truly yours  OM Grover(?) M.D.

Who is this?
