WILL OF FRANCIS CLAISE
In the name of God, amen. The twelvth daie of March Anno domini 1631, and
in the seventhe yeare of the reigne of our Sovereigne Lord, Charles, by the
grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, King defender of the
Faythe.
I, Francis Claise of Colchester in the county of Essex,
yoeman, beeinge sicke of bodie but whole of mind and perfect memorie - Thanks
be to God. Do ordaine and make this my laste will and testament in manner
and forme followinge (that is to say)
FIRST - I commend my soule into the handes of Almighte
God that gave itin sweet and certain hope that for by and through merritt
death and passion of my own sweet Saviour Jesus Christ, the righteous - my
sinnse are pardoned and forgiven and that I shall enjoy life everlasting,
and my bodie I remitte to the earth (from whence it came) to be buried in
decent and christian buriall at the discretion of myne executrix hereafter
named, when it shall please God to take me out of this mortall life.
ITEM - I give and bequeathe unto Thomas Cloyes (Claise)
my sonne the sum of five poundes of good lawful money of England to be payed
unto him (by my executrix) (hereafter named) within sixe months next after
my decease.
ITEM - I will, give and bequeathe unto Sarah Claise and
Marie Claise the daughters of said Thomas Claise my sonne - to each of them
five pounds of lawful money of England - apeece to bee payd unto them or
either of them (by my executrix) within one year after my decease.
ITEM - I bequeathe and give unto my daughter Marie the
sume of twenty shillings of lawful English money to be payed to her within
six months after my decease (by my executrix).
ITEM - I give, will and bequeathe unto Francis Williams
my grandchild (the sonne of my daughter Marie) the sum of five pounds lawful
English money to bee payd to him (by my executrix) within one month next
after that bee the said Francis Williams (my grandchild) shall accomplishe
the full age of sixteene yeares.
And my will, intent and desire and true message is that
my executrix (hereinafter named) shall att her owne proper costs and charges
educate and bargain as in the motive and feare of God - the said Francis
Williams my grandchilde until he the said Francis shall accomplish his full
age of sixteene yeares.
The residue of all my goods and chattles (of what nature
and kinde whatsoever) plate, jewels, debts, bills, bonds, reddie monye and
all other things whatsoever, my debts and royalties payd, my funerall discharges
and this will proved and performed, I will give and bequeathe wholie to Dorathie,
my loving wyffe and to her assignes forever whom I make, sole executrix to
this my testament and last will, desyring and charging her as shee will answer
the contrare at the generall daie of Judgement, tha shee carefullie and consciensciously
prove and perform this my last will and tstament according to the true intent
and meaninge hereof.
In witness whereof, I the said Francis Claise revokinge
hereby all former wills and testaments by mee heretofore ordayned and made,
to this my last will and testament. I have sett my hande and seale the daie
and yeare firste above written.
