"This agreement made this 9th
day of November 1918 between the Peterboro Cemetery Association of Peterboro
in the County of Madison and State of New York, party of the first part
and A.A. Phipps owner of Lot No. 14 o.c. party of the second part.
and whereas the party of the second
part is desirous of habing the party of the first part assume a perpetual
care of said lot, and to that end and for that purpose has now paid said party
of the first part the sum of Fifty Dollars ($50.00)
Now therefore in consideration
of said sum of Fifty Dollars to be paid by the said party of the second part,
the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. The Peterboro Cemetery Association
doth hereby covenant and agree, that it will at all times hereafter maintain
said lot in good ordre and condition and as often as shall be necessary cause
the grass to be cut and the graves preserved in good order.
In testimony whereof the said Peterboro
Cemetery Association has caused this instrument to be signed by their Secretary
this 9th day of November 1918.

Canastota, New York taking back apartment in a small house. When his
mother became ill she came to live with them until her death. The family
then moved into the Clockville home he and his sister Allie had inherited.

Had not felt well since November
but continued to attend to his daily work without taking to bed for any
length of time. On Wednesday March 4, his day off, he was about to
take a nap in mid - afternoon when Mildred discovered that he was breathing
hard and had a strange color. She phoned a physician but Alton died
before he arrived.
