SARAH MARTIN GIBSON

  • UPDATE
  • Sarah Martin, daughter of Henry S and Chloe Boswell Martin, was born 1813 in Washington County, Tennessee. In 1830 census she was living with her mother Chloe and stepfather James Deakins along with her brother Elias Martin and sister Rebecca Martin. By 1840 both Elias and Sarah had married and were living away from home. Rebecca was probably at home until1850 when her mother died but where did she live in 1860 and 1870? She was living with her nephew Henry Martin Walker and wife Amanda Jane Bacon Walker in 1880 ; she was listed as being "very old" So most likely Rebecca died in the 1880's but have no idea where she is buried?

Sarah and Thomas Gibson were married October 25, 1832 in Washington Co., TN

I found the following census for the family of Sarah and Thomas

  • 1. Thomas Gibson 39 farmer 600 Tennessee
  • 2. Sarah Gibson 37 born abt 1813 Tennessee
  • 3. James Gibson 16 born abt 1834
  • 4. Thomas Gibson 14 born abt 1836
  • 5. Henry Gibson 11 born abt 1839
  • 6 W. H./Frank? Gibson 9 born abt 1841
  • 7. Chloe Gibson 3 born abt 1847
  • 8. Eliza Gibson 1 born abt 1848
  • If these dates are correct for the birth of Chloe and Eliza then Thomas did not die in 1844 as Gibson researchers have written....also why is Thomas mentioned in the 1850 Census for Wash. Co., Tennessee. Maybe he did die in the 1850's or after moving from Tennessee?

  • I have not found them in 1840 or in 1860 and later. Did Thomas and Sarah go to Schuyler, Missouri and settle near Elias Martin? Would love to know who their children married and connect to cousinsContactjanelle!!
